An interesting bit of history and a lovely venue for a (bring your own) picnic. There is also a good exhibit on the history of radio.

Cork City Gaol is definitely worth a visit - and I highly recommend the audio tour (available in many languages)! It has been impressively restored and refurbished with great attention to detail. And although it is designed for tourists, who often want to hear gruesome stories, the respect for the prisoners is not lost. We loved it there!
A brilliant and well preserved piece of history, it was interesting the whole way through. I paid two extra euros for the audio-guide which was well worth it. The staff were friendly and helpful and they went above and beyond. One of the employees was doing a tour for a group of blind/partially-sighted people and she was so good to them, right up to helping them out the door of the gaol and down the steps to the street. A real example of the brilliant Corkonian people.
We really enjoyed our visit to the gaol. We used the audio guide which was great. Easy to use and clear. The kids aged 11 and 16 both found it interesting too and the building itself is absolutely beautiful. We would absolutely recommend this for any age of visitor.
Not the easiest place to get to. A long walk from the City centre and as far as I know, the only bus that stops outside is the Hop on/Hop off bus.
However it's well worth making the effort to visit. The Gaol really gives an impression of what it must have been like for the prisoners and the included audio guide gives loads of information which adds to the experience.
There is also an interesting audio/visual presentation which tells some of the stories of the Gaol's troubled past.
It takes around an hour or so to go around the Gaol, and is well worth a visit.
Really informative tour. Great way to spend an hour.
Parking was really easy. Spaces directly outside the jail. Would recommend
