“Outstanding stay !!”

We were warmly welcomed by Rebecca, of Filters Cottage, with fresh eggs (from her own hens) and good Scottish shortbread. This little slice of heaven is well placed between several farms, in the shadow of a shallow mountain. It's just outside of Linlithgow (think Linlithgow Palace) and is a short and pleasant hop on the train to Edinburgh. Driving up the road through the fields to Filters, you encounter many hefty cows (behind fences), hares and all sorts of birds including a resident hawk, perched on a hydro pole. This cottage is perfectly equipped, as advertised, and everything runs as it should. The bathroom is very indulgent, the bed is really comfy and mornings are divine due to the views of the hills (and the cows). Altogether, a great find that made our two weeks in this marvelous land absolutely magical. Highly recommended.

“A gorgeous place to stay in a wonderful part of the word...”
Reviewed 8 December 2016 for a stay in August 2016

This was the second year in a row that my partner Debbie and I have stayed at Filters Cottage. It lies just outside Linlithgow and is within easy reach of the town, while still being nicely (but accessibly) off the main roads. Rebecca who owns and rents out the cottage is a lovely and friendly host who always leaves a little gift on arrival, such as eggs from her chickens or shortbread.

The cottage has all the facilities we need for a week away, and is very well equipped...in fact it's better than being at home in some ways! There's a lovely bathroom, comfy bed and bedroom, and a large main reception/living room (which combines a lounge area, seated table and chairs for eating, and the kitchen area, which is well equipped with all the pots; pans and utensils you'll need). There's also TV, and free Wi-Fi too.

Also, if you take a little walk from outside the cottage just up the hill, you can take in some fabulous views of the Forth of Firth and even see the famous red painted Forth Rail Bridge.

For Debbie & I it's the perfect base from which to explore this area of Scotland, as we love visiting historic places by day, and dancing our little legs off at night. Edinburgh, Stirling and Glasgow are all within easy reach, although the more times we stay here the further afield we travel searching out the smaller prettier places to visit too.

In summary, the best recommendation I can make is that we love it here so much, we've already booked up to stay again in 2017!

Liked best: We just love staying here as it's clean, tidy, comfy, cosy, well equipped and suits us perfectly as a base to explore a large area of Scotland from...
Liked least: There isn't really anything we dislike about the property...other than having to leave at the end of the week!
