On my visit to Arran, top of my list was the Arran Cheese Shop.
When we arrived at the car park the queue was out the door!
Once my friends & I got in we were able to try samples of the cheese.
I have already had the cheese before so knew what I wanted.
I recommend the garlic, chilli & oak smoked circular cheese as well as the long peppercorn & cracked black pepper.
They are plenty of crackers/oat cakes to go with the cheese.
This was the highlight of my weekend visit!!
We have visited many times. This is a small cheery shop with lots of cheese and many of the foods and utensils related to cheese. All the Arran produced cheeses are for sale and there is also an interesting but small selection of other artisan cheeses. There are usually small but generous samples available.
All the other shops in Duchess Court are worth seeing and god coffees can be had.
This is a lovely little hidden gem. It is tucked away in the north of the island and has the best selection of cheese on Arran. N.B. There is also a cool little crafts shop in the same yard.
In the cheese shop they have-
chutney, jam/preserves, cheese (cheddar's, brie, camembert, different blue cheese etc).
All reasonably priced (however not the cheapest for the smaller hot beetroot chutney jars). We bought a mini camembert and a larger brie...cant wait to eat them with some salt and pepper crackers!
The staff were really nice and helpful. They were also quite considerate in letting us pick what we wanted as it was technically closing time.
You must go in to this little shop.
Cheese made on sight. Very delicious tasty bits if cheese and biscuits to sample and buy. Shop very busy
It's a small shop that sells the local cheeses of Arran, it had a small plate with 3 different types of cheese samples. Cocktail stick provided for you to taste a very small cube just like they do in a supermarket. Oh they did also have chucks of oatcake too. There is a window to look through to see something but no one was in there making anything and no equipment was on display in an afternoon during the height of tourist season. Sorry, but it was a waste of 5 minutes.
Love this shop. Beautiful cheeses and lovely staff. We were supplied with plenty of free tasting samples too.
