If you are coming to Glasgow from the South you will probably arrive at Glasgow Central Station. It's the busiest station in Scotland!

There are 18 platforms so make sure you know where your train is going from. Generally the trains bound for England tend to depart from platforms 1-6. Trains to Ayr, Stranraer, Gourock, Ardrossan and Wemyss Bay tend to leave from platforms 12-16. The locals trains to the suburbs of Glasgow tend to leave from the platforms in between. In addition there are the low level platforms (17 & 18) where trains to Motherwell, Larkhall, Hamilton, Balloch, Helensburgh, Dalmuir leave from.

There are plenty of shops on the concourse however there are lots of shops outside the station which may be able to offer what you need at a slightly cheaper price.

It's a magnificent station and well worth enjoying before you carry on your journey.

Thank therichastill

As the name implies this is in a good position for visiting some of the landmarks of this city. The impressive Victorian canopy unfortunately is overshadowed and hidden by the surrounding buildings. It is only when you are closer to it that you can take in its beauty. The station itself is functional and has a number of restaurants, close to the entrances.

And older hotel is built right into the station. The station is pretty well organized and you can get trains to wherever. The food choice and homeless situation/surrounding area are a little bit wanting.

Glasgow Central gives a grand impression to the arriving or departing traveller. It has lots of the original decor still in situ and is well worth a look around if you have time. However, I note that the Network Rail 'free toilets' promise has still not arrived here, and 40p to use a urinal is rather taking the p... Even London station toilets are cheaper!

A great and impressive station. We travelled from Newcastle to Glasgow. It was great experience. The scenic journey and comfortable train made the journey enjoyable.
