Our familly attended a wedding at the hotel and due to the distance arranged to stay the night before the event. The hotel is vey welcoming and the receptiion staff well trained. Our room was a good size considering that we has an extra bed put in for our 11year old daughter. The building has been converted from a collection of 5 Victorian houses, very charismatic but unfortunately this means that their is no air conditioning a big drawback on the rare occasions when Glasgow was in the low 80's.
The food was very mixed!!!
The wedding menu was great and all courses were delicious particularly the Cullen skink.
Breakfast on the other hand was a complete disaster. After many years in the industry I have never seen an "omelette" so poorly cooked. It appeared more like a pancake with a filling. My avocado wasn't ripe which made for difficult eating with the poached egg and tomato salsa. The fruit bowls didn't contain any apple or kiwi despite these being within the description on the menu. Nothing was delivered hot and the toast had obviously been prepared quite a while before we received it.
In general I wouldn't recommend the hotel for a general stay, however a function may be something I would consider again.

We were looking forward to enjoying a family meal at Hotel du Vin bistro, a long-time favourite venue for our special occasions. The evening started off well, with attentive service and an inviting menu. However, upon taking the first bite of my main course (skate wing), it became clear that something was very wrong with my meal. The fish exuded an ammonia-like smell and it felt like it was burning my throat. Another person in our party also had the same experience with the same dish. Although the staff apologised and changed our dishes without question (only partial compensation in the form of free desserts), no full explanation was provided as to the reason for the chemical smell/taste of our meals...a very concerning experience indeed!

We tried the fixed price menu as part of our dinner bed and breakfast deal. What excellent value. Three courses for £28. What a bargain. My husband had the sea bass which he proclaimed delicious and I plumped for the mushroom risotto. Highly recommended.
