Review of Buchanan Street

Buchanan Street
Ranked #30 of 284 things to do in Glasgow
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 4 weeks ago

We enjoyed our walk down the Buchanan St pedestrian mall on a bright cool October day. There were excellent street musicians and people of all sorts and sizes and colours. The shopping included many of the top international luxury brands as well as local department stores and many places to part with your money or not.

Thank Brian S

I have a macbook pro and was having trouble with charging. I took it to the Apple Shop and was quoted by email just under £100 for a new magsafe (charger connection). There was no way of accepting the quote online (for me anyway) and went into the shop to confirm acceptance. I was then told the board and display were water damaged and not working and quoted just under £800 for repairs.Aghast I said no thanks (eventually) and on handing it over I was told it would not work again. I asked if I could take the hard drive out and transfer the data. Yes was the answer if I could find someone to do it. I looked on net for a second hand one and then decided to take it to another repair shop. It was looked at and a new magsafe fitted and a replacement charger all for £100. It is going like whizz again and no issues with display or anything for that matter. I went into the shop and told the manager the story and he said someone would call me on Thursday 4 October which we mutually agreed. No one called and still waiting.
I will be told that there was water damage and that Apple has to point it out and that they could not repair it without replacing the parts. They would not do the magsafe repair on its own. So beware when you are told your laptop will not work and are handed a very expensive repair quote. Oh and Simply fix it are not cheaper. They were more expensive for the magsafe repair and would only look at my laptop on the basis of a £100 diagnostic and the cost of the magsafe part at circa £69 for a part that costs under £9.

A nice range of shops in a pedestrian area. This area is even better if the weather is fine. Great for purple watching.

Glasgow shopping has long held reputation of being best outside London. All major brands with exception of Selfridges are represented. Buchanan Street runs from the north to the South of the city and links the main shopping streets of Sauchiehall Street and Argyle Street.House of Fraser main flagship store situated here and main shopping area -Princes square -located across road and is covered mall with designer stores and full range of restaurant facilities. Also close to rail subway and bus links to other parts of city. An essential part of any visit to Glasgow.
