“Not Enough Tributes”

Citizen Firefighter
Ranked #152 of 282 things to do in Glasgow
Reviewed 28 June 2018

Bearing in mind the amazing job fire fighters do saving people's lives I'm quite surprised there are not more statues of them around the country.

Citizen Firefighter stands just outside Glasgow Central railway station. As you leave the station by the main entrance turn right and there is the monument.

Presents a very striking monument in my opinion.

There have been many large fires in Glasgow and many people owe so much to the Firefighters. This statue is sighted just outside Glasgow Central Station and is level with the viewer which is much better to engage with then if it was high up on a plinth.

An interesting blend between a work of art in its own right and a traditional city statue, by Scottish sculptor Kenny Hunter.

Created in 2001, this statue is Glasgow's Tribute to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. The intent is good and I personally have a lot of respect for the men and women who risk their lives to protect the public from fires. The sculpture is well done and well intention, just lacking in imagination.

It's right next to Glasgow Central and outside the entrance to the Grand Central Hotel, so worth a detour if in the area.
