if you have any interest in engineering or mechanics, go and see the Wheel. even if you aren't not that interested in how it's designed, it is worth visiting! the views are great, nice area to sit and watch the wheel and the boats, and several footpaths nearby. walk further up and walk on part of Antonine's wall while you watch the Wheel in action.

The place is neat and nicely maintained by the authorities, the wheel is huge and they take you up from one basin on Ground level to other basin where there is a canal and union tunnel. The place is very nice with some activities for kids and youngsters. The walk from canal through tunnel towards union canal is amazing. Some people use this route for running.

For anyone that wanted to see Archimedes principle in action, the Falkirk Wheel is is a must. This is a contraption that replaces locks and dams and can match canals that are almost 100 ft different in elevation. While it can actually handle some good sized canal boats, this is more of a tourist attraction because the trip that you take after being lifted or lowered is just a short distance. Still, it is quite a feat of engineering and we actually got to see a real canal boat as well as a tour boat fit into the lift coming down at the same time as another tour boat was raised. Make a reservation ahead of time as it was sold out on the day that we visited with our group (we had tickets).

Excellent visit, ride on wheel was a great engineering concept which still in use today with the canal boats near by where you can rent. Lovely café and toilet facilities too, plenty car parking too. Friendly staff too, but you must book ahead for the wheel as it gets busy

Amazing to watch the wheel in action moving pleasure craft from top to bottom and vice-versa. My only disappointment was that I thought it moved larger vessels. Oh well, still AMAZING. Very beautiful as well as functional.
Visitors center is spacious and has good food offerings and restroom facilities.
