Owner description: Surgeons' Hall Museums is an award winning Museum that is home to one of the largest and most historic pathology collections in the United Kingdom. Surgeons’ Hall Museums reopened in 2015 after a major £4.4 million Heritage Lottery Funded redevelopment project. As one of the oldest Museums in Scotland, the collections grew from 1699 after 'natural and artificial curiosities' were publically sought. In the 1800s, the Museums expanded to include the remarkable collections of Sir Charles Bell and John Barclay, with the Playfair Building opening in 1832 to house these. Whilst the Museums were initially established as a medical teaching resource, all are now welcome to visit. The Museums are currently home to an extensive collection of pathology, anatomy and medical ephemera.

My 3 year old son is a curious little fellow with a bit of an anatomy obsession - this place is wonderful as it is able to answer all of his questions. The staff are all super friendly and never blink an eye to my chattering toddler or me having to breast feed my 8 month old daughter amongst the jars of organs.

All the pieces are fascinating and brilliant. We often come here for an afternoon out. It’s refreshing their encouragement for young children.

We have passed the Surgeon's Hall Museums on so many occasions but just decided that we should pay a visit. We were not disappointed. The range of exhibits and the different presentations styles makes this an absorbing tour. Whilst some of the exhibits are gruelling the stories they tell are fascinating.

Well worth a visit.

Hi Igor. It's a shame you didn't have a lot of time, we recommend leaving at least 1 hour to have a look round but many of our visitors spend much longer. Thank you for your lovely comments about our staff. Hopefully we'll see you again at some point in the future.

I loved this and learned a lot of interesting medical history tidbits. If you are a bit squeamish, this might not be the place for you, but I found it fascinating.

Great day out especially if you are interested in surgery/anatomy and the history behind modern surgery, definitely not for the squeamish and not your average museum. I learned so much while walking around the museum
