We were impressed with the standard of room and bathroom for the money we paid. All clean. Staff helpful and not intrusive. Think the map of Edinburgh on the wall is a fantastic idea and like the quirky decor. This hotel is right in the middle of all the hustle and bustle and so don't expect it to be quiet and peaceful in the evening. The old town and the castle is just on your doorstep and its within walking distance of all the sights in both the old town and the new town. The bed was large and comfy. The hotel itself doesn't serve food but there are plenty of eating places on the doorstep and there is a connecting door into the Irish bar next door. We would defo stay here again.

The location is absolutely perfect, close to everything of interest. The atmosphere of the hotel is young, vibrant, hip and cool. The staff was nice but on more than one occasion was nowhere to be found when we needed them. Wifi was a bit weak on the rooms, we lost access everytime. I still recommend this hotel.

Hi Andre,

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us here in Edinburgh - we really appreciate it!

It's great to hear you enjoyed your stay at The Grassmarket Hotel, and you found the atmosphere to be vibrant and cool! It's also fantastic to hear you found the staff to be friendly and helpful - unfortunately as we are a small team sometimes the desk is left momentarily unattended while we assist guests to their bedrooms.

I am sorry to hear of your issue with the wifi - I will be sure to bring this up with our IT department.

Thank you again for your comments - please remember to make use of our seeyousoon promo on your next visit :-)

Best Wishes,

Rachel & The Grassmarket Hotel Team

Great location, connected to nice Irish bar and Scotland's smallest pub. Few minutes walk from the castle, excellent bus services just on the doorstep. Friendly relaxed feel. Great shower and music facilities in room. Very clean. Only downside was we booked a double room and for given two singles pushed together, we then realised on the last night there was a zip between the two if you took the sheets off, don't understand why they couldn't do that themselves? Also not great ventilation but apart from that was great and would definitely recommend!!

Room Tip: Check for the zip if you get two single mattresses!

Good Morning Hannah,

Thank you so much for reviewing your recent stay with us here at The Grassmarket Hotel - we really appreciate you taking the time to do so!

I'm so pleased to hear you enjoyed our central location, the cleanliness and design of room, and the service you received both in the hotel and the adjoining Biddy Mullligans. I am disappointed to hear your feedback on the bed in your room and I have addressed this with the housekeeping team.

I hope we will be able to welcome you back on your next visit to Edinburgh - don't forget about our seeyousoon promo for our returner guests :-)

Best Wishes,

Rachel & The Grassmarket Hotel Team

Good Morning Alfonso,

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us here in Edinburgh - we really appreciate you taking the time to do so!

It's great to hear you enjoyed our central location - we know we are lucky to be located right in the heart of the Old Town, and it's great to hear you made use of this during your time with us.

I'm pleased to hear you found the customer service to be top notch, and appreciated the parking offered at the nearby NCP car park. As you have noted, we are not a custom built hotel and are located in an old building - so some rooms are not lift accessible - we recommend guests book with us directly so we are able to accommodate them in the most suitable room for their needs.

Best Wishes,

Rachel & The Grassmarket Hotel Team

Sorry for the delay in posting my review......My husband and I spent only 2 nights here in early January 2016, and just loved this hotel, and indeed Edinburgh. Remember it was cold (and a little rain) in January, but everything else about this city and especially this hotel was very warm indeed.
The location of this hotel is just perfect. This was our first time to Scotland and didnt realise how the layout of the city really was, so it was such a wonderful surprise when we realised that the Edinburgh Castle was literally behind our hotel. Also, how central Grassmarket is - its only about 400m (uphill) to both the Castle and the Royal Mile (castle end of course). Its probably a little far to walk to Princes St in winter, but might be a good walk in summertime. We jumped on the hop on hop off bus for a tour and got off in Princes St for a few hours to roam there - this also did look like a fab place to stay, however I think I would still opt for Grassmarket/Royal Mile if we returned to Edinburgh (and most likely back to the Grassmarket Hotel).
We had a Standard Double Room with breakfast included - def get the breakfast - it was the best we had on our 3 weeks in UK/Europe - served in Biddy Mulligans pub which joins the Hotel. While it might not be the most picturesque spots to dine for breakfast, one could not fault the food - plenty of it and just delicious. Speaking of Biddy Mulligans, its probably the liveliest pub/bar in the area - definitely while we were there. We spent both nights in the bar enjoying the company of the locals and visitors alike. Good music and reasonably priced drinks. And we never heard a thing from the pub when we were back in our room
Back to the room - very spacious, lots of closet space, very quiet - and we had a 2nd floor corner room overlooking the street. The bed is huge and really comfy - heaps of pillows and quality linen. The bathroom is quite small but very adequate and a very good shower. Just loved the very hip decor.
Theres also a jug in the room to make your own hot drinks, and they also provide little cakes
Oh, and one more thing - the staff - excellent! Very young and very friendly. Super helpful, even printed our boarding passes, no problem.
Thanks for the fantastic stay. Couldnt fault this place and hope to one day return.
