Owner description: Our walks are written and researched by historical author and award winning novelist, J A Henderson. Our guides are a mixture of historians and professional entertainers, picked for their ability to improvise entertain. As a result we have enjoyed years of rave media reviews. City of the Dead has been named “Britain’s Best Ghost Walk” by Scare.com, Yahoo! Travel and Virgin Media and is the only Scottish attraction to be short listed for the prestigious Screamie Awards (3 times!) and the Luxury Travel Awards. We also won Scare Tours ‘Best Ghost Tour’ award. Best of all we have sole access to two of the word’s most haunted sites. Damnation Alley is in the South Bridge Vaults and part of Edinburgh’s legendary Underground City. The Covenanter’s Prison is a locked section of Greyfriars Graveyard and lair of the infamous‘Mackenzie Poltergeist’. This entity is the best documented supernatural case of all time and responsible for hundreds of ‘attacks’ on the tours.

Did the double dead tour with this company as my other half wanted to be scared xxxxless. Really good mix of history, humour and storytelling by our guide David who really should be presenting the Crystal Maze. Think of a 20 something Richard O'Brien. Very articulate well presented tour full of historical knowledge. Was I scared? No but I don't scare easily. But it was enormous fun. DO Wear sensible shoes as the vaults are really slippy and it is pitch black and uneven to walk on. David keeps a good pace and engages his audience well. If you dont like the dark or get claustrophobic then avoid this tour. If you want a bit light hearted fun with some history thrown in its well worth the money.

We thouroughly enjoyed our tour with Dave. It has the right blend of creepy and funny. A good time was had by all and its nice to do something that is just a bit off the beaten path.

The tour guide Amy was both funny and well versed in history. She was excellent and a very good storyteller! We will tour again!!

You enter a haunted tomb, surrounded by a historically touturous and disturbing old prison in a haunted kirkyard, in one of the most haunted cities on the planet......on a dark night with a notorious attacking poltergeist; and one perfectly animated tour guide who seems intent on spooking you half to death......

AND before all of this you've just been loitering in the sinister and atmosheric Edinburgh vaults in the flickering candlelit darkness........the double dead tour deserves 6 stars!!

This is my third review and I honestly don't work here, although I should do with the amount I've banged on about it quite frankly loved it.....brilliant tour

My husband and I took the double dead tour through South Bridge Vaults and the Covenanter’s Prison in Greyfriars Graveyard, our guide Iain was very passionate about the history and was incredible at entertaining us, we even discussed taking the tour a second time just because we enjoyed it that much!
