Booked two rooms for two nights. Staff were very welcoming and accommodation was clean and comfortable. The hotel is in a great location, and our rooms were very quiet (although unfortunately this was because our window looked on to a brick wall and we couldn't see a thing!). Check in was excellent with a warm welcome from the receptionist. However she made a point of telling us about the complimentary snacks and soft drinks we would find in our mini bar, which would be replenished if we used them. There was only water and milk in our fridge, although our friends had the promised items in theirs. On our second day we still had nothing apart from water in the fridge - but neither the water nor extras which had been used were replenished in our friends' room. To be honest we survived very well without Irn Bru and Tunnocks Teacakes ....but why promise something that isn't happening? We mentioned it on checkout (different receptionist) and got a vague "oh I don't think the company is doing that any more...". Perhaps a little consistency in service and knowledge wouldn't go amiss! We would stay here again, if the price was right.

The first thing you notice about this hotel is what a fantastic location it is for both business and pleasure. Right opposite the main train station and walking distance from pretty much anything that’s worth seeing (apart from the Botanic Gardens which are further out but also well worth a visit).

The lady who checked us in was excellent. I’m sorry I didn’t get her name so I could give her a shout out on here but she was both welcoming and informative. Check in process was about 60 seconds from arrival to getting our keys as well.

The room is well proportioned and included all the expected amenities (shower gel, shampoo, bottle of water, ironing board etc). The bathroom was very large although I did have to report a broken tap which leaked water all over the place. Although it didn’t bother me the windows are single glazed so if you get a room facing out towards the main road there’s certainly some road noise in to the early hours. The rooms are a little tired and could do with a lick of paint as it was flaking off in some areas of the wall and ceilings. Beds were comfy and the TV is well equipped with freeview channels.

Travelling with a colleague we thought it would be rude not to sample the adjoining bar which had a very good selection of wine, cocktails and various gin and tonic options. The snack menu was also reasonable: get the cheese board if you can’t decide.

All in all this place is made by the staff who were all exceptional in the kind of relaxed and informal way I prefer. I would certainly stay here again if travelling for business.

The hotel is conveniently placed in the new town with easy access to a car park and to the shops, restaurants and attractions. The rooms are brightly decorated, immaculate and with a superb bed and bathroom. The fridge is full of treats with no charge. The real difference for me though is the staff. Every person you speak to is helpful, enthusiastic and interested in you and your stay.
Couldn't recommend this enough

Nice quiet hotel and close enough by walk to all Edinburgh has to offer. Fairly clean although the coffee and tea amenities were quite dusty so we didn’t bother to use them. Was ok for a short stay. Parking is off site near John Lewis and will cost you about £11 for 24 hours once validated by the hotel. The hotel does offer breakfast for about £10.00 and a few in room freebies like some snacks, cold drinks and tea and coffee.
