The core of the old city, with lots of shops, interesting small museums, and the like, as well as street performers in the evening. Full of tourists.

It is eye opening to take this walk even if you have done it before. It is one part frozen in time and one part changing with the years. Tends to be very crowded, even on weekdays! People watching is fun too.

The streets a full of people, the shops are too numerous to count, street buskers are everywhere and interspersed are incredible churches and other buildings from the past. There is just too much to take in in one trip. We only went about half way down the street, but it took forever to get that far. Must look in here, what is the street performer doing, let’s listen to the piper, oh let’s have a look in that church, what’s down this alley. It goes on and on. Loved the walk, needed way more time to really have a look around. You could easily spend days on this walk and not see everything.
Loved the walk, but after a couple of hours it was time to call it a day, especially after having spent a few hours at Edinburgh Castle.
I would suggest 3 days – Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile one day, The Royal Mile the second day and The Queens residence, the Abbey and the Royal Mile the third day. Even at this you would still not have seen everything.

So everyone runs from Edinburgh Castle to the Scottish Parliament. It’s hilly and lots to explore off the main road too with cobbled steep alleyways leading down towards the station. Steeped in history so many souvenir shops and cafes and fast food. Fantastic views especially from night up where you can see down to the sea. St Giles Cathedral also on this street. Fabulous buildings buzzing with tourists and lots of buskers and even someone in a kilt playing bag pipes. A number of hotels along here too. Whiskey shops galore and so many souvenir shops. Busy day and night it’s the heart of Edinburgh traffic is also limited in parts.

If you visit Edinburgh this a must ! Don’t miss it! The only excuse is if you are coming just to play Golf Even that may not work. Scotland at its best!
