Worth a visit! So much history. Tours are very detailed. If you love taking pictures, make sure you take different lenses. Pay a little extra for the audio as it can get noisy.
Really enjoyed this. If you love history, a view and wanting to know more about the city.. this is a must.
I would also recommend having a look when the mini tour is at the castle. It’s only 30 minutes but well worth it. You could spend all day here, take a picnic and make the most of it!! If you like anything to do with the army.. you will LOVE it!
Recommend for most ages. Possibly no pushchairs or young toddlers. There’s a lot of steps!
I took my grandson (aged 3) here today. It’s a fair walk from the railway station - mostly uphill - but very picturesque and historic.
Entry was £18.50 for me (kids under 5 are free) - I think it’s slightly cheaper online. It’s quite well signposted inside and we visited the war memorial, the Scottish Crown Jewels, the jails and of course the cannons. All very well done and brimming with history. Inside the castle the uphill walking continues - it will keep you fit!!
We also visited the Redcoat restaurant inside the castle - pretty pricey for what’s on offer. Overall an enjoyable visit
Edinburgh Castle is a great place to visit if you’re keen on history and military history in particular. Easily accessible from the Royal Mile and Princes Street. Great attraction to browse around. Good wet weather option too.
Our visit to the castle was very interesting with all the medieval history. St Margaret's Chapel was a must as it is the oldest building in Edinburgh. Our local expert was outstanding. Beautiful views of the city from the top of the Royal Mile.
