Deacon Brodie was a businessman by day and a scoundrel by night, perhaps the inspiration for Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The pub is busy. Nice quiet restaurant upstairs.Try to hit it before the crowds. the food is fine, the atmosphere excellent.

we went for lunch and were relatively early. the restaurant still had tables. when we left an hour or so later, there was a queue down to the street. food was a bit less than average (we had haggis, neeps and tatties and then burgers), but i really liked the atmosphere, old-timey feeling of the place is what makes it special.

This pub is conveniently located to the Royal Mile. It has a lot of atmosphere and service was very good. The pub is on the first floor and dining is upstairs. The fish and chips were excellent.

While there you can read about the history of the pub's namesake. I'll leave that for you to figure out.....

After spending the morning touring Edinburgh Castle we decided to stop at Deacon Brodie’s for lunch. We were a little early as it didn’t open til 12 so we waited outside and soaked up the atmosphere.

Once in we were given two tables upstairs as there were 14 of us.

Drinks orders were taken very quickly which we were very glad about.

Menu has a great selection plus they had some great sounding specials. The 11 others we were with were from Houston so they mostly opted for fish and chips and were not disappointed. I had the kedgeree fish cakes which were lovely. Nice fresh salad accompanying them. My husband had the chicken pie which looked lovely.

Only disappointment was that they couldn’t do a half sandwich for my son. Can’t understand why that would have been a problem so felt there was unnecessary food wastage as a two year old can’t eat an adult portion sandwich!

Food reasonably priced for such s central tourist location. I’m sure we’ll be back again one day.

Was lucky enough to book through the web and received a table with a great view overlooking the mile. Pricey but the food was good and the service was excellent. Portions are large.
