Fantastic roomy accommodation with private balcony over the river. Alternative private courtyard.
Beautiful uninterupted views of the river and sunset.
Owner responded quickly to concerns.
I would recommend visiting the BoatHouse without hesitation. We had fantastic weather and would just sit watching the sunset listening to birds.
We could not have found anywhere more perfect for my special birthday. This lovely unique house with its spectacular views ensured that I had a birthday that I will always remember.
We loved the house, loved the terrace, loved the views and really enjoyed Kirkcudbright.
The apartment itself is spacious and extremely well equipped. Being all on one level it was very suitable for my elderly friend. We appreciated having our own bathrooms just opposite our bedrooms. Altho there were only two of us I can imagine how it could easily accommodate a large group. Sitting on the balcony watching the activities of the harbour and moorings plus the wonderful views of the countryside opposite was a constant delight - especially after a busy day enjoying ourselves! Being keen gardeners we very much enjoyed the many gardens and nurseries the area has to offer. My friend cannot walk far but she was able to manage to get round the town as it was so near and on the flat. KCB is a delightful place with some excellent shops and galleries plus a good selection of food outlets and cafes. She also enjoyed Castle Douglas as it has some very nice ladies outfitters. For the more active there are lovely beaches very near plus a good little swimming pool as well as golf, fishing and walking. The scenery around KCB and south west Scotland is superb and really quiet and unspoiled. My friend described it as 'a little bit of paradise' and I totally agree as I have had many holidays there. If she is fit enough (87) I will take her back next year and would certainly wish to stay again at The Boathouse.
This really is as good as it looks....a lovely house, very spacious, very well-equipped kitchen, cosy bedrooms, and an open plan living/dining room big enough to move about in. The views from the front of the house were just amazing. The balcony/patio was a fantastic place to sit watching the boats sailing by while sipping a glass of wine and the kids enjoyed toasting marshmallows at the chimenae. Because the house is the only destination down a secret passageway there is no passing traffic, either on foot or by car, so it is one of the most peaceful and tranquil places I have ever stayed, yet only minutes from the town centre pubs and shops. The whole family loved staying here, and I would not hesitate to recommend it .
Spent a lovely sunny week at The Boathouse in May 2017 (thanks for arranging the requested weather, Shona!)
We used all 4 Bedrooms, including the Bed-sofa of the second Sitting Room which was made up for us and this meant that there was plenty of space for all 5 adults. My son said the Bed-sofa was very comfortable indeed and loved having his own En-Suite facilities.
My elderly Mother-in-Law was absolutely delighted by the fact that everything was on one level, as she creaks a little these days and having remembered to bring her shower stool, the walk-in shower was perfect.
Every other facility was present and correct and we wanted for nothing.
The location is wonderful, being just a stone's throw from the town centre, but the star aspect is the view over the River Dee with it's ever changing moods.
We didn't switch the TV on once during the week and we never missed it at all, THAT view was more than enough...
We spotted herons, gulls, sandpipers, cormorants and house martins as well as the usual array of garden birds and we awoke most days to the wonderful sound of the Song Thrush which I hadn't heard in our part of the world for a few years.
Eating out, we tried Polar Bites, which was very good, the Kirkcubright Bay Hotel (twice) which was above average but nothing startling to be honest (not happy at getting charged an additional £1.20 for additional crackers for the cheese and biscuits!) The Castle Bistro (twice) which was absolutely outstanding (and very reasonably priced), didn't try the Selkirk Arms Hotel as it was eye-wateringly expensive for a steak.
Loved Kirkcubright and the people, so friendly and welcoming, it really is a fabulous UK holiday destination and The Boathouse is the prefect place to stay.
One tiddly suggestion, Shona, the towels are a bit on the wee side, how about some lovely big beach towels?
