Spent a lovely sunny week at The Boathouse in May 2017 (thanks for arranging the requested weather, Shona!)
We used all 4 Bedrooms, including the Bed-sofa of the second Sitting Room which was made up for us and this meant that there was plenty of space for all 5 adults. My son said the Bed-sofa was very comfortable indeed and loved having his own En-Suite facilities.
My elderly Mother-in-Law was absolutely delighted by the fact that everything was on one level, as she creaks a little these days and having remembered to bring her shower stool, the walk-in shower was perfect.
Every other facility was present and correct and we wanted for nothing.
The location is wonderful, being just a stone's throw from the town centre, but the star aspect is the view over the River Dee with it's ever changing moods.
We didn't switch the TV on once during the week and we never missed it at all, THAT view was more than enough...
We spotted herons, gulls, sandpipers, cormorants and house martins as well as the usual array of garden birds and we awoke most days to the wonderful sound of the Song Thrush which I hadn't heard in our part of the world for a few years.
Eating out, we tried Polar Bites, which was very good, the Kirkcubright Bay Hotel (twice) which was above average but nothing startling to be honest (not happy at getting charged an additional £1.20 for additional crackers for the cheese and biscuits!) The Castle Bistro (twice) which was absolutely outstanding (and very reasonably priced), didn't try the Selkirk Arms Hotel as it was eye-wateringly expensive for a steak.
Loved Kirkcubright and the people, so friendly and welcoming, it really is a fabulous UK holiday destination and The Boathouse is the prefect place to stay.
One tiddly suggestion, Shona, the towels are a bit on the wee side, how about some lovely big beach towels?
The riverside location is brilliant. We watched the tides and boats from the comfort of this lovely place every day. The accommodation is spacious and well maintained. There is lots to see and do in the local area and Kirkudbright is a pretty town to walk about in. It was the perfect place for our family gathering.
My family stayed here over the Easter holidays. The house is set back from the road (parking on-street, busy but always got a space) and the lounge looks out over the harbour, providing opportunities to boat-watch for anyone who feels so inclined. 4 bedrooms, one with an ensuite, a well-equipped kitchen (for those inclined to cook) and plenty of space (six of us visiting, did not feel cramped). All in all, a fabulous place, well worth a stay.
A little gem in a fantastic location. Perfect for exploring the surrounding areas. The boathouse itself is a lovely little property with great views out over the harbour. 4 generations stayed on our visit aged from 7 to 76 and the boathouse accommodated all our needs perfectly. I would absolutely recommend to friends and family and we will definitely be back for another visit.
Stayed here with a group of friends for a long weekend. From the minute we walked through the door, we just fell in love with the house. It was absolutely perfect with plenty of space (and toilets/showers) for everyone. The views were stunning and the livingroom was excellent for our group to eat/relax in. The area surrounding the house was beautiful for walks and there were some fantastic boats in the harbour for us to go see.
We went to Laggan Activity Centre for the day which was amazing!
All communication with the ower Shona was very friendly and informative. Will definitely be back ...hopefully soon! Thank you.
