WOW what a wonderful cottage. Very well equipped, nice decor, very comfortable, home from home. Ideal location for visiting, Melrose, Galashields, Hawick, Selkirk, Peebles, Edinburgh in an hour by catching the train from Tweedale, £11.20 per person return and free parking at the station. Would highly recommend this cottage.

.. from first opening the door we were delighted with the cottage .. its in a superb location , is excellently presented .. everything was on hand ..

Newstead / Melrose is a great base to explore the borders / South of Scotland. The train link to Edinburgh is a great bonus.

Great places to visit .. wonderful landscapes to explore and history in abundance.

“Cosy cottage”
Reviewed 2 June 2016 for a stay in May 2016

We enjoyed our stay at Heron cottage, a pretty, well equipped, compact cottage in Newstead, near Melrose.

Plus points are: very well equipped allround, spotlessly clean, nice quiet village, friendly chatty locals, nice walks from the door, on a frequent bus route (to Galashiels), good train service from Tweedbank (2.5 miles away), 20 min walks into Melrose

Minus points: downstairs bathroom / toilet, no pub / shops in village, limited headroom upstairs - if over 5' 9"

Beautiful period cottage with modern interior. Cosy and relaxing with log burner for the cold evenings. Stunning walks from front door with a relaxing walk into Melrose. Highly recommend this cottage.

“Beautiful Cottage - Highly recommended”

We stayed in Melrose Cottage for only one night but loved it. Great position and parking outside door. Cottage is 2 bedroom/1 bathroom - very tastefully decorated and all the modern cons. 2 bedrooms are upstairs and all else downstairs. There is no wifi in this cottage but we viewed it as a welcome break. Would recommend to anyone visiting the area.
