We stayed here for 3 nights, Wed to Sat. The hotel has been transformed by the new owners and it is really warm and homely. The owners themselves are very friendly and accommodating. The kitchen staff were terrific too with our waitress giving us great info on the town of Hawick itself. Breakfasts were really good, with a lovely clean fry-up, and everything cooked to order, no nearly warm buffet!
Strangely enough there was no wardrobes or cupboards for clothes and we were staying for 3 nights and golfing so we had a couple of small cases to unpack. However when we mentioned this to the owners they delivered a clothes rail to our room to hang shirts and skirts etc on. We still had to live out of the cases of course for everything else. Strange on as the rooms are huge, well room 7 was. All in all we liked it and would go back there again. It was just about a 10 minute walk to the centre of town, which was fine.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with storage if you are staying for a while.

Stayed for 2nd night of our mini-moon and we got upgraded to the Bridal Suite! Beautiful building full of original features, it has been lovingly restored by the owners and the decor is fabulous throughout. We had afternoon tea on arrival and it was amazing! No evening restaurant but there is a bar menu. We had delicious cauliflower, potato and chedder soup with some bread. It was very reasonably priced and just what we needed as we were still full from the afternoon tea! The room was very spacious and comfortable and the bathroom was also nice and large. We slept really well and had a delicious breakfast in the morning. The owner chatted with us about how they'd worked on the house and tried to save the features and how it used to be a Barnardo's children's home. The building has a lovely feeling about it, so I can imagine it was a happy home. We loved it here and will definitely stay again.

Thank you for the review. Pleased you managed to try the home made food. Everything is cooked fresh and we do evening meals on certain days but it is better to pre-book.

We loo forward to your return.

Set on a steep hill on the southern edge of Hawick the house was once home to a local mill owner.
Inside on a cool April evenoing the warmth of the wood burning stove was no greater than the warmth of the welcome.

The large rooms have wonderful antique furnishings and contempary bathrooms

Breakfast was individually prepared and good.

We are pleased you enjoyed your stay with us.

The hotel is ideal for the smaller intimate wedding and I must say the bride was stunning. We will add the photographs to the webpage once the happy couple return to the UK.

Stayed one night having bid for the room in a charity auction. Utterly exceeded all expectations. Balcary House is located a short walk outside the town and offers first class accommodation. The present owners have totally refurbished the building, maintaining the character with an updated contemporary twist. A friendly bar area with home made soup and cakes were most welcome on a wet afternoon. Room spotlessly clean and comfortable. Absolutely delightful and can’t imagine anywhere better to stay in Hawick. Hope to return for longer next time.
