Review of Legananny Dolmen

Reviewed 2 October 2015

Legananny Dolmen is well worth a visit. The area oozes history - it is the perfect place to stop off with a picnic lunch and spend time soaking up the peaceful energy - recharging batteries. It would be a good idea yo wear 'sensble shoes- ihe path up to the dolmen is a short - less than 5min walk - but the surface is rough and there is a gentle climb.

One of the best Neolithic Portal Tombs in Ireland, perched on the slopes of the Dromara Hills, looking across the the Majestic Mourne Mountains, and the Irish Sea.

Very easy to get to, with a small car park nearby.

The closeness of the farm buildings is a bit intrusive, but nothing really detracts from the power of this place.

There is a very nice wee tea room "Turnip House" about a mile from the monument

Had been in this area before and was sorry that we had not managed to get here, This time we slipped away for a brief break from a wonderful but busy family get together. The Dolman is simply beautiful and so peaceful. My husband has problems with walking but was very easy for him to get to it. Well worth seeing. We called into Turnip House craft centre and cafe for soup, tea and cake which is nearby on the Leitrim road which was brilliant.

Dolmens are intriguing. Who made them, when is not always clear. But I have been on something of a dolmen trail wherever I go in Ireland - north or south. Its been a few years since i was at this one. But usually you have a nice view from dolmens. Think of it as being in the footsteps of the ancient Celts...

I was here in 2011 but I dont expect the dolmen has changed much since then :)

It can be hard to find the dolmen but it is located at GPS coordinates: 54.3231234,-6.020138.
There is a sign for the parking before you reach the last road, leave the car there and walk about 150m on foot to reach the dolmen.

This is the most famous and photographed dolmen in Northern Ireland. Enjoy the lovely surroundings where you can see green fields, farms and also see the Mourne Mountains.
