Description: The Morning Star dates back to 1810 as a public house, but the building was here well before that! The entries were, and still are, the heartbeat of old Belfast. Located in an old romantic entry running between Ann Street + High Street, in the heart of Belfast City Centre. The Morning Star is easily identified by the superb Victorian sign hanging from a grandly exuberant iron bracket jutting out from the corner of the bar, one of the finest examples of its type around. We source all our beef, chicken, lamb and pork locally and most off our family farm. We serve award winning food in our restaurant and bar Monday to Sunday, with a focus on simplicity and promoting local produce. Our bars stock the best in spirits and we pride ourselves on our vast whiskey range. We also have local and international craft beers on tap along with the likes of the black stuff (guinness).

What a fabulous place. Popped in after my niece got chatting to some locals who recommended this bar. Opted for the buffet and our waitress Jinny was on hand to explain everything. Service was wonderful and food was fabulous. Amazing value.

We visited this pub for lunch after a recommendation from a local couple.
We were not disappointed, after reading the full and varied menu we opted for the bar buffet - there was just too many delicious options to choose from.
We were served by the lovely Jinny who told us about the dishes and cut us some of the most delicious gammon, the steak and Guinness pie was amazing !
We loved our meals and the Irish coffee was the perfect end to our great experience - we look forward to returning when we are back in Belfast.

My husband and I used to visit the Morning Star back in the late 90s and early 2000s when belfast wasn't quite the well developed tourist hub that it is now. We decided to go there again late this afternoon (upstairs dining area) and were simultaneously happy and worried to find that nothing had changed with regard to the decor - but we liked that. It might seem a little dated and old fashioned but that is part of the charm. The food was lovely and the staff friendly but not in your face. One little detail that stood out to me was that at first I thought the steak knives laid out on the table didn't look as fancy I've seen elsewhere - they had black plastic handles rather than wooden ones. So I picked mine up to have a closer look and noticed it was victorinox utility knife so not bad quality after all. We didn't have the steaks today though, in the past, the steaks there inspired us to buy our own sizzle pans and try some of their ideas at home. We each had steak and ale pie which was lovely followed by a shared seasonal Eton mess,, also gorgeous. The husband thought that their bass on tap was very good. Overall a very pleasant and reasonably priced Friday afternoon meal in Belfast. We really enjoyed it. The background music was pleasant and the volume level was perfect. From our window seat we could see two seagulls on a roof opposite looking after their chicks - ugly little critters - but a nice little scene of urban nature. Also they do two for one on main courses on Monday night so might check that out soon
