Amazing hotel. From the moment we arrived and were greeted by Sarah at the front desk, all the staff were warm and friendly. The service was excellent and the bedroom was fantastic. The Great Room was beautiful and the ceiling and chandelier decorated in gold added such an elegance. We had the 9 course tasting menu with paired wines and it didn't disappoint. The rooftop hot tub allows relaxation looking over the city. The hotel is so centrally located it makes a great base for exploring the city. I don't have a bad word to say about it.

Had a wonderful day in the merchant at a family wedding, food and staff excellent...nothing too much trouble for the staff, even though it was a large reception..the rooms were first class, and with valet parking..all in all a great day

Stayed on our usual Christmas Eve overnight and as always this hotel delivers. Excellent staff and service and made to feel at home in amazing surroundings. Had dinner in the great room and the food was perfect as you would expect.

A must stay experience, it is expensive, but worth every penny.

Room Tip: Stay in the Victorian rooms, stunning

Wow, just wow!
A stay at the merchant is special.
Just home from a perfect overnight stay with my mum. We had 3 course evening meal and breakfast inc.
The meal was devine, from pork belly to venison to mum profiteroles swans! And couldn't fault the breakfast either. We stayed in the Art Deco style rooms, such a treat with free standing bath and all sorts of hidden surprises in the room.
I booked the merchant after watching the tv documentary. I was amazed at their approach to cleaning the rooms etc so naturally I went looking for dust. I did find some at which I was surprised although it didn't impact on out stay as evething else was perfect.
Beds (and pillows) are fabulous!
Would recommend to anyone looking a special treat.
