Owner description: On the northern fringe of the city of Swansea, and within sight of the M4 motorway, lies the estate of Penllergare Valley Woods. Here, deep in the valley, away from the noise and fumes of the passing traffic and encroaching development, you'll find the remnants of an important historic landscape, which is gradually being preserved and restored. It is a secret and magical place; where you can enjoy the sound of birds, delight in the profusion of wild flowers, discover evidence of exotic plantings and uncover for yourself the hidden features of a grand design. This romantic and picturesque place was contrived for the enjoyment of its creator John Dillwyn Llewelyn - a pioneering mover in science, nature, photography and astronomy in the 19th century. After over half a century of neglect, today it is a place that can be enjoyed and explored by everyone. Penllergare is run by a small charity, The Penllergare Trust. Our Volunteer-run Coffee Shop is open 10-4 daily and our car park 9-5.

What a lovely day out here, you can get lost in the beauty around you, the Waterfall is stunning to watch although can be busy. There is a cafe and toilets for convenience just a great day out for all, kids adults and dogs. Recommended.

Thank you very much for your kind review, Jo. We are glad you enjoyed your visit. Did you know that Penllergare is run by a small charity and our Coffee Shop is mainly staffed by volunteers? All the proceeds from there and our car park go back into helping us to maintain and restore the woods.

The paths are well maintained with several areas lower key for the exploring types. New little cafe by pay and display car park if thirsty.

Thank you for your review, Della. I am glad that you enjoyed your visit and found the woods to be well maintained. Penllergare Valley Woods is managed by a small charity and the Coffee Shop and car park are our main source of income to help us to maintain the woods. Most of the Coffee Shop 'staff' are actually volunteers from the local community.

Visited here recently on a lovely sunny spring day and saw Robins and took photographs. Dogs enjoyed it too although they could put more dog bins about frankly as you end up walking for miles carrying the dreaded poo bag.

Lovely bulbs and trees and the waterfall took our minds off of things. Lots of seats to bide a while on and beautiful scenery. Well worth a visit. Would we go again, of course we would.

Thank you very much for your kind review, Julia. I am glad you and your dogs enjoyed your visit. Penllergare Valley Woods is managed by a small charity, The Penllergare Trust, and we don't have the manpower or funding to provide dog poo bins inside the park. We have poo bins at all our official entrances, but the council will only collect from bins which can be easily reached from the road. We aren't part of the council and don't receive any funding or resources from them. Our Coffee Shop (run mainly by volunteers) and our car park are our main sources of income to help us to maintain the woods so that they are welcoming and accessible for everyone.

Absolutely love Penllergaer Woods. It’s always an enjoyable dog walk and the children love it.

It can get very muddy in winter so dress appropriately.

Went for a lovely walk along the stream with the dog and two children (1 aged 12, 1 aged 5). Also had a stomp in the woods. A great adventure. A bit bumpy and have to look where you are stepping. There are paths that you could use for a buggy, but be advised there are steep steps and banks down to the stream. A beautiful waterfall. Have been in the rain and on a hot sunny day. There is a small coffee shop near the car park -we didn't use. A toilet and a medium sized car park. £2 for all day parking which is good. The car park closes as 5. So beautiful with beautiful views
