My family and I stayed here for a week in August. We have a 1 year old daughter and a Labrador and we had a really lovely holiday. The setting was perfect for us. Walks literally on our doorstep. The views are stunning and it is very peaceful. It's about a 10 minutes drive in to Brecon and easily accessible to the rest of the Brecon Beacons.
The owners could not have been more accommodating and friendly.
Our daughter had a lovely 1st birthday here and we had the relaxing and enhance holiday we had hoped for.
The property is equipped to a good standard with a lot of new fixtures and appliances. The owners were very attentive with a number of nice touches such as fresh farm eggs on arrival. The generous deck and garden area were a lovely place to relax, read and enjoy the view on warm summer evenings. Parking was off-road, cooking in the kitchen was easy with the modern hob and oven and the overhead power shower was great for refreshing after long bike rides. The property is 10 minutes from Brecon, 20 minutes from Builth Wells and 30 minutes from Hay-on-Wye. The area has some wonderful walks & bike rides and Canoeing/Kayaking and other adventure activities are only a short distance away.
Despite being back from the road, there was a surprising amount of road noise disturbing the piece and quiet of the deck & garden - the road seemed particularly popular with noisy motorcyclist! The property has no Wifi and only minimal phone coverage from EE on the back deck - there was no Vodafone, O2 or Three coverage at all and the EE data was much slower than dialup and this made planning trip activities much harder than usual. The bedroom was a disappointment - no blinds on 2 of the 3 bedroom windows so lots of light to wake you up in the window, no wardrobe and only a small chest of drawers, the bed was unpleasantly firm and is only a basic double so we found our feet hanging over the ends and hitting the wooden frame. The shower pump was rather temperamental and the shower head sometimes had to be moved below waist height to force the pump to start - the owners appeared to be aware of shower issues but unable to fix them! The kitchen doesn't have a dishwasher. The layout of the dining/living area was odd - when we arrived the dining table was under a bookshelf and the sofa faced away from the TV/DVD and despite our best efforts, we couldn't really find a room layout that worked for us.
For those looking for a retreat from TV/Phone/Internet distractions this is probably an ideal property. For those looking for a more active holiday, do consider the niggle & limitations above to see if they might bother you.
