Took two grandsons for a day out. Although the weather was dull and cool it was most enjoyable. Two rides on the narrow gauge railway. (Don't forget the Passport to collect stamps for a free sixth ride.) A large restaurant with hot and cold fresh food. A garden centre and numerous top name outlet shops. Ample free parking

The Valley Park as a whole is a little disappointing as it needs more shops, but if you take the garden centre it is fantastic. I lovely my garden centres and will travel a couple of hours to visit them. This is the best presented and well kept/maintained garden centre i've ever visited. As a keen gardener and x-landscaper it is just brill. All the plants you could want and extremely well laid out and so healthy. The restaurant is a delight too. Wonderful food, well presented. It is as though the whole store has the same ethose - well done to the management, a lot of garden centres good do with using your model.

We wanted somewhere to stop off on our journey home from Devon to Yorkshire that would be suitable for our 7 year old grandson, but not take too much time as the next day was a school day and he needed to be home reasonably early. This fitted the bill perfectly. We arrived at lunchtime and decided to call for a meal first. The Apple Barn was very busy so we decided on the Crafty Cuppa. Unfortunately there was no children's menu, so out grandson had a jacket potato with beans and cheese, but did not like the taste of the cheese, so he left most of it. However we did enjoy what we had. Then we went through the craft shop which was extensive, and on to the light railway. This was very reasonably priced as two other small railways I have been on have cost at least £8 each for the same length of ride, and if a previous reviewer can tell me where I can ride on a full sized steam train all day for £2.50 I would dearly love to know! We got off at the play castle which seems to be designed for smaller children rather than our grandson's age, but he still had a time of fun, until the train came back.
Then it was a quick trip round the shops and back in the car for home. We will definitely break our journey home here again, to look round the shops and have a walk., when we are on our own.. .

I used to love this place. It was atmospheric and friendly with interesting craft sellers and a fabulous farm shop where you could pick up the makings of a lovely picnic before taking the train or going for a gorgeous walk. Now it is a soulless expanse of large and expensive shops, most of which can be found on a high street anywhere, and a massive area promoting mobile holiday homes. The farm shop has gone to be replaced by a second craft type store and the lovely bustling atmosphere is gone. Yes, the train and the walking is still available to access, but I would certainly not take a special trip just to do these activities, as there are bigger and better rail alternatives within a few miles of here, and plenty of country walks in the area too.
So sad to see the soul and individuality taken from a place and replaced by an obvious desire for profit making!

Dropped in when unexpectedly passing. Very clean and easy to find our way round. Loved the shopping experience.
