“Wonderful place!”
Reviewed 16 September 2017 for a stay in July 2017

I am a Canadian who has lived in Oxford and London and was looking for something spacious for my two children and two parents. The Wimbledon suited our needs perfectly! Fabulous spacious townhouse in Eton near Windsor castle. Views of the castle at night are stunning! Would highly recommend The Wimbledon over any hotel in the area.

“Great Townhouse In A Terrific Location”
Reviewed 27 October 2016 for a stay in October 2016

Hotels are hard work and poor value once there are 4 of you staying the night! This was our first try of booking a short let and let's hope all of our experiences in the future are as good as this.

The location is perfect, on the Eton side right next to the bridge connecting Eton & Windsor, with a 7am opening Costa 30 yards away and restaurants near by if you want to grab some food and eat in. A huge amount of restaurant choice just 5 minutes away also and if you want a central base, with parking this place is "spot on".

We stayed in the Ascot (there are 3 houses) which is 4 storeys tall, the top one has a terrace with river & castle views. There 6 televisions! (I kid you not) spread throughout the property with iPad controlled music that can be played thought the house.

The owner communicates well and in a timely manner which made things very easy.

I cannot recommend the place enough if you are a family wanting a central base and I am a not always easy to please (see my review of a Rye restaurant)

So don't hesitate "book it"

“We will stay here every time we are in Eton/Windsor for the nest 8 years of school”

Having stayed in many places in Eton/Windsor over the last few years I can honestly say this has knocked spots off all self catering but also so much better value than The Christopher Hotel, The Christopher Wren, and the Macdonald hotel all within the same area.
Brilliant location, excellent amenities, superbly appointed.
We will be back if we can.

“Beautifully appointed riverside apartment with views of Windsor Castle”
Reviewed 29 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

If you are looking for a place to stay in Windsor/Eton, it is hard to imagine a better choice than these townhouses. There are, I think, 3 of them, all run by Classical Britain (classicalbritain.com). We stayed in the Ascot, which has two bedrooms, but sleeps up to six, because of a sofa bed in the upstairs TV/games room.
The building is on the Thames, just on the Eton side of the footbridge which connects Eton and Windsor. It is a stone's throw from Eton & Windsor Riverside railroad station, and a leisurely five-minute walk to Windsor High Street, the Castle and Windsor & Eton Central railroad station.
There are many excellent restaurants and bars right on your doorstep, including the Cote Brasserie just across the street, and the elegant Gilbey's just a few steps towards Eton.
The apartment itself is arranged on 4 levels, with no elevator, so would not be suitable for anyone who has difficulty climbing stairs. I will not detail the layout of the apartment, as there are plenty of photos on the website, but the highlights are:
All fixtures and fittings are very high end, and the kitchen features a very nice oven, dishwasher and washer/dryer.
Each bedroom has a beautiful, spacious en-suite bathroom, one with bath and one with large walk-in shower (which had a tendency to flood, but, when I informed the owner about this when we left, he assured me he would fix it right away).
The 3rd floor (for the Americans; it would be 2nd floor to a Brit) has a large lounge area, huge wrap-around sofa and oversized ottoman, and a flat-screen TV. This floor also houses the small games/TV room, with sofa bed. The PS3 PlayStation is showing its age a little bit (we could only get one of the controllers to work), and the selection of games is limited, but it kept our 12-year-old amused.
On the 4th floor (top), there is a nice rooftop area, with table and chairs and a fabulous view over Windsor and part of Windsor Castle.
All-in-all, The Ascot is a beautiful place to stay in Windsor/Eton. It is not inexpensive, but, especially if you are a group of 4-6, will not cost you much more than 2-3 rooms at a modest hotel.
Highly recommended!
