Was a wonderful weekend, cottage was very cosy and well presented in a lovely location couldn't of asked for a better weekend away
We stayed at owls lodge for only 3 nights and most definately will book for a longer stay next time. The lodge is brand new and has been decorated to a very high standard and was well equipped with everything you need for your stay. We arrived to tea coffee milk and biscuits which was very much appreciated after a long journey and fresh flowers were a lovely touch too. Hayley was there to greet us and very helpful with any questions you may have. The lodge is down a single track dirt road which is quite steep which was not a problem as had a 4x4 and to be fair we didn't meet anyone as not many passing places if you did. This would not put us off from booking again but thought it was worth a mention. The garden is enclosed which is good if taking your dog so you can relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the countryside especially as the sun goes down it's quite something. The bedroom had plenty of storage and cases went under the bed out the way. The bed was very comfortable too. We were visiting family and were out and about quite a bit but it was lovely to come back and enjoy our evenings in this lovely lodge so peaceful. There is no signal at all which was only a problem for us trying to arrange with family we were meeting up with and for researching routes and places to go but if you go up the road a bit you soon get some and we had maps etc with us. This was our first visit to the new forest and found this lovely lodge a good base for getting out and about and a lovely retreat to come back too. We would highly recommend this place and most definately will book for a week next year so we can see more of the beautiful new forest.
Five star accommodation, exceptionally clean and tidy with a very welcoming starter pack of tea/coffee/ biscuits and milk which was much appreciated after our long journey. The proprietor's Hayley and James were very welcoming and wonderful hosts who were readily available to offer help and advice. Although we were informed of poor reception in this area for wifi and mobile phone reception, prior to booking, it was not a big deal as we spent a very peaceful time getting away from it all. Just what we wanted. If we needed to make contact with family, you just travelled to the top of the hill to receive a good signal.
This place was well situated for exploring the surrounding area and further afield. Salisbury approximately 5 miles away. The village of Winterslow as a well provisioned shop with the proprietor very welcoming, offering information on local attractions. There are two public houses, although we only frequented one, The Lord Nelson which had a great welcoming atmosphere all down to the landlord Paul, not forgetting some very friendly locals who made our visits memorable.
Overall our stay was fantastic, and would highly recommend this place. Many thanks to our hosts Hayley and James and we will definitely back for another stay.
Clean and new, wonderful hostess. Hayley went out of her way to accommodate my two dogs and make me feel welcomed. I enjoyed the stay so much I changed my travel plans to return and stay longer! Not having wi-fi turned out to be not a big deal--there are plenty of diners and restaurants nearby that have free connectivity so I just checked in while I waited for my meals (amazingly, the world didn't end because I wasn't connected 24/7). I should mention, my two small dogs loved this place as well--nice yard and plenty of walking trails.
