Absolutely stunning, the facilities are fantastic. Great to stay with family or friends, we would definitely recommend.
I was never really aware of the South Downs and their natural beauty until recently seeing and hearing various programs on the BBC. We decided it was somewhere we wanted to visit and explore so booked the Cart Shed rather last minute. It could not have been more ideal in what we wanted. The accommodation itself was clean and roomy for our family of four, with a more than adequately sized child friendly garden which was fenced in (adequate for a dog too if you were to bring one). We had a friendly greeting from the family coupled with flowers, a home baked cake and a bottle of wine on our arrival. The cottage itself is in a great location if you want a peaceful break and to see wildlife. Between us we saw bats, deer, a fox, various birds and did hear an owl up in the woods. There is a nice short 15 minute walk from the cottage over the hill through the woods and down to a local pub for lunch/dinner or just a drink. Centrally located to visit various South Down walks /cycle paths and there are several circular walks from the cottage (they even have their own Cart Shed ordinance survey map which you can borrow during your stay - the accommodation being the central point of the map). A short drive to Bosham for sailing or West Wittering Beach for some family fun and not to far for the navy museum in Portsmouth which we saved for a rainy day. Lots of other attractions around the area too. Great if you like walking, cycling or just waking up to a beautiful view. Thank you for a perfect holiday!
I was invited to this beautiful place by a friend of mine for a few days and I was amazed by the barns, beautifully decorated, all mod con, modern bathrooms and so well fitted kitchen! Lovely bedrooms with lovely linen.
The location is ideal in a very peaceful village, the owners are extremely friendly
The ideal place to relax and go for long walks.
I would love to return to this little heaven!
This was my third visit to the Cart Shed and it was as wonderful as ever - with the added bonus of bluebells shimmering in the woods. The same warm welcome; log basket full; cake on the table; wine in the fridge; comfortable bed; fluffy towels; good bed linen. I could go on and on. Thank you Kelly and the Huxham family.
A huge group of us stayed here in March for a 30th birthday, we'd booked all three barns and had a person in every bed, so it's fair to say we were testing the place fully!
We were treated to such a warm welcome by Philip and felt immediately at home in this beautiful building as soon as we arrived. The barns come as three separate buildings, or can be hired at the same time for one party to use all three at the same time (note, there is no internal access between the separate buildings, you need to go outside to access each building). Each building had everything you could need, with top marks on all fronts, cleanliness, meeting expectations, amenities, you name it.
The outside space is fantastic as well, the gardens are linked via latched gates, so you'll either have access to all three if you have all the buildings, or have your own spacious and beautiful separate garden if you hire one of the buildings.
The gardens also link onto the fields that you look over from the barns, from which you can access a number of beautiful country walks.
Only a mile (20min walk) to the nearest pub (Barley Mow, Walderton) which serves classic pub meals to an excellent standard, great beer garden as well with weeping willows along a narrow stream.
Only half an hours drive to West Wittering Beach as well (nearest sandy beach), which is a beautiful place for all (though I'd pick a warmer time of year than we did!).
Overall, I cannot fault Pitlands Barns in any way, I was blown away by this place, we're already planning when we can go back!
