Stayed for one night on business. Bar was ok, front of house service was ok and rooms ok. Breakfast in the morning was in a nice airy room and was wide ranging. It just felt that the room and communal areas needed a bit of a lift.

Dear MG693338
Thank you for your review and although you seem to have enjoyed your stay, I have noted your comments about the communal areas requiring a lift and will pass your comments on.
I hope it will not deter you from returning soon.

Room was tired and shabby. Carpets old and worn. Towels were well pat their best. No tea in our room the first night. Thought maybe it was a coffee only sort of place. Not so. Tea was provided the second day. Had dinner in the restaurant the first night. Ordered steak. Good quality meat spoiled by bad cooking.

I am sorry you found your bedroom tired and shabby. We do have plans for a refurbishment, presently being drawn up, but please do not hesitate to contact me directly on the hotel's email address next time you wish to visit the area and I'll ensure we allocate you a more up-to-date room.
Thank you for your feedback.

Arrived to find that I needed to leave my car keys at reception has car park was full and cars were being 'double' parked. Nice bedroom and Bathroom (Macbeth room) but it was a cold day the heating consisted of a mobile plug in heater with broken wheels, which is not ideal. we had a meal in the restaurant in the evening, my wife found a bone in her burger, and I had pizza which arrive with puffed up edges which were burnt and disintegrated into tiny bits when cut, also here was too much Ragu on the pizza and was very bland. so not very impressed with the meal in general. The breakfast was enjoyable with plenty of choice There is only a minimal choice of draught drinks available but a large choice of bottled drinks,
The large open fire was nice to sit by and have a drink. I would stay again but eat elsewhere

I hope to welcome you both back again soon - at least to the hotel.

Have stayed at many Mercure hotels and they are generally ok to good. However not this stay !1.Came back to our room at 1500 and it was still not cleaned.Did it ourselves since we wanted to rest before theatre2.Given wake up call at 0700 which we did not request.3.Getting out of the car park took 20 minutes whilst various cars had to be moved. They should not allow cars in if there is no space. All in all not up to the aspired standard

Professional rather than warm welcome on reception.
Our room was accessed up a rather steep second set of stairs - and the bannister could do with a good dusting in those 'hard to reach' places!
Room cold on arrival but radiator did the job after a while.
Remained nice and warm throughout the rest of our stay.
Carpet in bedroom needs changing - It's one of those carpets that simply doesn’t feel like it can be 100% clean. Perhaps 'cos we hadn't brought slippers?
Character buildings look great but understandably present cleaning challenges.
Even so, carpet/wall joins beside the freestanding furniture appeared not to have been vacuumed with ‘tools’ to get into tight spots for some time.
Bathroom compact but clean and good choice of tiles. Damp marks on ceiling above toilet and 'Cos the room was towards top of building there was a risk of bumping heads on plastered roof beam beside wc.
Shower very good and sufficient complementary shampoo etc for our overnight stay.
Full box of tea, coffee sugar( no sweetners) and milk capsules. No saucers for the cups but not a major issue.
Just a feeling that a character bedroom in a character hotel would benefit from different furnishing. The Austrian style fabric blinds, cloth covered chairs, carpet, chair cushions - especially the black one! - free standing furniture etc resulted in too many dust traps in a bedroom that won't be 5 star clean unless sufficient time and training is deployed for cleaning.

Full length Mirror on inside wardrobe door nice idea but rather cheap and distorting!
Room chandelier rather low - and VERY dusty!! Watch out if raising hands underneath to remove a jumper!

Prior to going to see Troilus and cresdida (magnificent performance!) - and loving the coincidence that our room was the Troilus and Cressida room! - we went to the bar to use our loyalty club drinks vouchers. However, had to wait best part of 10 mins before member of staff came to serve. I had asked at reception to be told there was someone 'on' but he was probably collecting glasses!!
Nice touch when a competent keyboard player arrived early evening (Saturday) and the bar area was toasty warm!

Car park is available but you leave keys so staff can rearrange cars and maximise parking. School car park is available nearby but expensive. Ncp available but further away but discount from hotel available. Themed rooms - t&c room

Overall, VERY convenient for Theatre and shops - and Garden of remembrance for the 11th. However, Housekeeping issues both in our room and on stairs + rather stretched service on a predictably busy early Saturday evening would combine for us to conside our stay to have been overall Average.

If you found my review helpful, please indicate. Thanks.
