Went to the Northgate for a family meal. Cocktails to start with in the bar area. There are doors that you can go to an outside patio area. Once the cocktails had been drunk we went into the main area for our meal. I had a 3 course meal. Asparagus for starters, steak for main, medium done. Then a lemon tart for pudding. We had a bottle of white wine between 3 of us with the meal and then we had a dessert wine. It was a lovely experience food and drinks very good. The service was not to intrusive, but we were very well looked after. I would defenatly go again. Price is not cheep but you get high quality food and service, which you don't mind paying that bit extra for.

My daughter and I went to the Northgate for a midweek lunch after an appointment in Bury. The staff couldn't have done more for us. A girl showed us round the stylish bar/restaurant area and offered seating outside with option of sun or shade. The terrace area had a tranquil Mediterranean feel and we felt like we were on holiday. I had a generous chicken Caesar salad and my daughter had a pulled pork brioche bun. Both were delicious and good value- we will definately be back

Being a rosette chef myself I was really looking forward to trying the Northgate as it had been recommended to us .We booked our table of 4 for 830 on Saturday 2 nd June . We arrived at 8.00 and as our table was not ready we were shown to the bar area and given a drinks menu, after 15 minutes waiting my wife went to the bar and asked if we needed to order at bar or was it table service at which a waiter came straight over and took our order .We ordered 4 cocktails (2 the same) and waited for our drinks to arrive and waited and waited at which point we were then shown to our table .We proceeded to order bottled still water (still waiting for our cocktails ) .The waitress then came back to saythere was no still bottled water (really at 840 on a Saturday night ) we then were offered tap water . We were still waiting for our cocktails now been there 40 minutes and no drink . When the cocktails eventually arrived One of the cocktails was served in a pint dimple glass to a lady at which point my guest asked for it to be changed into a more suitable glass for a lady .This was quickly taken away and changed .We then proceeded to order our food .A few minutes later the waiter came back and said sorry we have no asparagus left ,as our guest was a vegetarian this was the only option available as a starter she was then offered courgette at which point we said well that's what she is having for main course ,she was offered no other option .The food we had was good but the customer service and attention to detail was awful .Not clearing of empty cocktail glasses taking empty wine bottle and leaving wine cooler one of our guest had no cutlery for main course . Your staff need better service training and was a shame the service was not up to the standard of the food .unsatisfied customer Paul Webster

Dear Paul,

Thank you for raising your concerns, we have tried to get in touch with you since your feedback and also the other member of your party who left a similar review on our hotel page and regret we could not get hold of you. Clearly there were many elements to your evening that were disappointing and not up to the standard that we want to achieve. The team has recently undergone huge changes with a newly appointed General Manager and Head Chef who are at the very beginning of their journey to make The Northgate special and unforgettable for all the right reasons. These changes, as you know being in hospitality yourself, take time to take effect and we cannot apologise enough for the experience you had. Our new Chef has ensured there is plenty of choice on our menus for vegetarians, our bar and restaurant staff are receiving training to ensure these mistakes are not made in the future.

Kind regards,

The Northgate

Booked a table to celebrate a birthday and delivered a "surprise " cake to be served after dinner earlier in the day and notes taken about surprise element etc
Started with cocktails - service slow and I asked for a G&T with two tonics in a large glass, waitress in a tone dripping with sarcasm " I think you mean a GIN glass" nicely done if you want to make your guests feel really uncomfortable. I am not without the ability to laugh at myself but this was not delivered in a humorous way but downright dripping with spite.
Surprise cake came heralded by " do you want the cake now ? " then " I've brought plates for the cake " and third strike " do you want chef to cut the cake ? " FFS ...

had booked in advance for a hen do, large group of us but they were expecting us so was shocked that it took us an hour to receive our drinks!! even though we ordered straight away! the lady that served us made it out as if we were an inconvenience and was very rude. we asked if we could move inside as it started raining and she just walked off! didn’t create a very nice atmosphere for the bride to be! after waiting so long for one drink each we decided to leave. was such a shame

Dear Susan,

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your experience did no match up to your expectations. Our cocktail menu is very popular in Bury and we receive some great feedback so were disappointed to hear this. Larger parties are usually made aware that some cocktails take a little more time to make as many of them are works of art! Our bar team are undergoing training and we are hoping to make experiences like this a thing of the past. We do hope you return.

Kind regards,

The Northgate
