Hubby and I went to a wonderful piano concert at St. Michael's Without (it means outside of castle wall, so don't confuse it with St. Michael's Within). There are cafe tables and chairs right around and behind the pews. We were served pastries, muffins and coffee (you could have tea also) and invited to sit anywhere we liked. The staff is very friendly (and they don't evangelize, so no worries there) and the pastries were quite tasty, coffee was good, and we had a thoroughly enjoyable time. I would like to have returned for a worship service but did not get the chance.

Thank Martha P

I love it here, particularly as the abbey currently has no refectory. There is a very limited choice: a soup, sausage rolls and pasties, plus cakes and drinks, service is pleasant (if haphazard), yet the location and general feel is very special and delightful. Join a chatter-table: a lovely idea.

It is great to have a lovely coffee in the setting of a beautifully restored working church - it really strikes the balance between community hub, place of worship and cafe. Service and quality is excellent.

The sign says come and sit and reflect or pray, in our church. You'll have a job against the piped background music !
Cakes and hot food are available, tea coffee etc.
The setting is lovely inside the church, staff are friendly, and prices are a little expensive. (two cakes, 1 tea, 1 coffee - just shy of £10 )
When we visited it was lunchtime and quite busy, but service was quick.
Take time to look around the plaques on the wall, they're very interesting. But keep on eye on the loo queue, as there is only one loo !
Disabled access is a chair lift.

This cafe is situated in St Michael's Church Without. On entering the church, the cafe is on your right hand side. There are a few steps but a lift is available for wheelchair access. There are seats around the back of the church where you can sit, choosing seats near the counter or ones further into the church. Despite being in a church, the cafe is bright and cheerful. There are nice cakes, scones and drinks for sale. No soup, at least when we were there, and very little in the way of savouries. The cafe closes at 4 o'clock so you need to take your afternoon tea quite early if you go there. There are also cards for sale in the cafe.
