Stayed here a few times now, always while meeting friends. about 10 mins walk from reading town centre. Oxford Rd is very busy with traffic at all times of day, bus route and restricted parking. Hotel has onsite car park (£5/night) and have not had issues finding space before.
Rooms are basic, functional, bright, trendy colours. Mattress' are medium/ firm foam, comfortable with usual scratchy linens. Pillows however were near solid. Tea/ coffee facilities good, basic amenities in room. Room windows would not fully lock, so night time noise did intrude, including car stereos at PA volume cruising up and down the road. Bathroom was clean, small but in excellent repair, good pressure and plenty of hot water.
Desk staff were very friendly, polite and efficient.Tea/Coffee machine in reception for guest use, plenty of seats in waiting area.
Bar had long waits, and although I did not order any food, heard other customers complaining food was burnt/cold.
Breakfast was very busy (Sunday at 8am), continental style with decent selection, spread has improved dramatically since I last visited. Most staff were barely visible, spoke basic English and had little to no enthusiasm for their job, being at best curt.
At £48 /night you can't expect too much, but courtesy and politeness should always be free.More
