We only stayed in Oxford for a couple of days and wanted to eat somewhere nice and this restaurant didn’t disappoint us. The food was really good and they made fabulous cocktails.

Nicely set out and ok food but offers in reception should be reflected in the menu in the actual restaurant as we missed out. Advised reception but they did nothing

Dropped in at lunchtime midweek as we were in the area and spotted Jury’s Inn. To access the place you go up two flights of stairs past the hotel reception.

When we got there and requested a table for two we were told in an off-putting Eastern European accent in no uncertain terms that she could only serve groups or if we were part of a conference. The summary, curt manner in which that was said felt almost hurtful.

She might have felt she was was being kind to these lean and hungry-looking souls, when she gave us the option of having bar food downstairs. While we had by then made up our mind to leave, as an afterthought, she said we could partake of the buffet.

Realising we were not welcome, we opted to beat a hasty retreat!

Visited this restaurant as we were staying at the Jury’s inn so it would be rude to not stop by for some dinner.

Camembert starter which comes at £9.75 was the smallest Camembert I think I have ever seen. Menu claims it is cooked in herbs. Well, unless watercress is a herb. There’s was no herbs insight on that dish. Vine tomatoes it claims? Nope. Just cherry tomatoes. Oh and two of the smallest slices of bread you have ever seen. NOT WORTH £9.75. Very disappointed.

Onto the mains, we both had the grilled salmon steak. No complaints with the salmon. But again they claim it’s with herbs. It is just watercress again. Think there’s a pattern here? They also forgot to bring out the side salad until we asked.

My partners mushrooms were exceptionally salty meaning she couldn’t enjoy the meal properly. As was the creamed cabbage with pancetta.its almost as if the chefs didn’t taste their food before it left the kitchen. All of the above disappointments led to us not wanting a dessert. Sorry Marco but you were a major disappointment.

Expected better.

This restaurant is within the Jury’s Inn, the service from start to finish was wonderful, the atmosphere made for a lovely relaxing meal. The Welsh rarebit to start was lovely, the Blue cheese burger was wonderful, the fillet steak was cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth, there is also a nice wine selection. The food came out promptly - all in all a lovely evening, definitely recommend and look forward to returning
