Picked up Geanna from Caversham; moored up for two nights at Sonning, very historic village; then went on to Henley for three nights, a very lively town and well worth the stay. Back to Sonning and Caversham. Everything on board one could need - very comfy beds. Lots more room in the fridge and freezer than we'd expected. No clothes washing/drying facilities but it's a holiday so no problem! Lovely villages en route with lots of restaurants and pubs to visit.
With 7 of us on board, that is 4 adults + 3 children the harmony, all working together
was just great. The children loved the swimming, my wife loved sitting on deck watching the Thames go by, I loved those wonderful riverside villages.
The boat was a superb piece of, "Design". The loos were very easy to change over.
We found that just 3 or 4 hours per day, cruising was enough. A very minor down side was the lack of T.V. May I suggest that you include a hand book on the engine controls. We did not use the bow thursters, since we unfortunatly turn off the isolantion swicth near the bows. A hand box would have informed of this!
We picked up the boat at Caversham, very easy. Jane and her team met us and took us out on the boat for tuition including going though the lock which was really helpful. We were 6 adults the kitchen dining/ sitting area is great and plenty big enough, kitchen facilities were excellent and well equipped, we were impressed with the cooker and had lovely sausages and jacket potatoes which it cooked perfectly. Bedrooms are comfortable and the bathrooms although snug were perfectly serviceable and clean. The cassette toilets caused us some amusement! We went up to Marlow and back (Monday - Friday rental). The scenery and wildlife are amazing and all in all we had a throughly enjoyable holiday and would definitely consider renting this boat again.
If you want a great deal of fun in a beautiful barge then this is the one for you. Everything we could think of was to hand (except for a mop please for muddy/damp deck!). 3 very inexperienced ladies, muddled along, fell at a few fences - or should that be locks??!! - but still had laughs and happy memories to take away. People along the way were so kind and helpful and it goes without saying that Caversham to Cookham is probably one of the most stunning stretches. Jane and Rob amazingly kind and helpful with plenty of local knowledge - thank you. Only got home today and wish I was back. My son and his family and some friends want to go now.....so much to do and see and such a healthy holiday. If you are in two minds about it please just go!
Staff could not have been nicer or more helpful. Great introduction/briefing/safety session on arrival with lots of practical tips and this really helped as the river was running quite high after the rains - 'Geanna' is quite a large lady and needs attention at all times! Inside the boat is fitted out to a very high-end standard and was beautifully presented. The saloon/kitchen area is of a good size and made particularly comfortable by the wood burner which we found an added bonus as we had rather cold weather. If you are hovering and wondering if this holiday is for you we would say jump in and have an adventure - even our dog is now a fully paid up bargee!
