“Good value”

Just the Tonic Comedy Club
Reviewed 16 February 2016 via mobile

Great value. Four acts for a tenner. We got the deal to include mini golf for £14 and was well worth it. Acts were good, breaks s little long between acts although I don't know if his was because the last act was late he arrived minutes before he came on. For the price we paid on a Saturday night it was good

Venue is a little dated but for the money you can't complain. Only issue for me was the toilets, one didn't lock, floors were horrid but we made do.

We were staying at the Village Hotel in Chilwell Nottingah and fancied doing something different.
If you want a good night out with friends or just your partner and want a good laugh this is the place to go.
Ticket prices are fairly cheap and can be got on linr prior to going and as long as you have your booking reference with you you will get in no trouble.
Booze prices are much as to be expected from a club in yhe city centre but not that bad.
also compared to london prices the taxis are fairly cheao. A 25 to 30 min run cost us about £15
All in all a great night out and I would go back again

Came to the venue with 5 friends refused entry as one didn't have I.d told it stated this on the website and e-mail WHICH IT DOES NOT.
members of staff where rude so asked for names to complain to the manager and got verbal abuse .
Called to complain and the manager was just as rude and I quote said it was he said she said type of situation and blamed us for being drunk in which we had not been drinking.
AVOID THIS ESTABLISHMENT

If you are interested in stand up comedy or just a bloody good night out - there really is no other place to go in Nottingham - this place is just superb. It won't appeal to everyone every week - but that's it's beauty - how can you cater for everyone on any given night ?. Just The Tonic has never disappointed me. Like I have said - I have been going here for years - I have seen acts that have struggled, acts that have amazed, acts that are just impossible to explain and acts that simply shouldn't be in such a small environment - but this happens pretty regularly in the Tonic. A massive amount of credit should be given to Darrell - a owner who genuinely cares what he's putting out on stage - not everyone could attract the names and acts he does - massive names regularly come and do a set when they're normally performing at arenas in front of sell out crowds. If you've heard of any decent comedians - chances are they've been behind that microphone on the small stage in the Tonic. If you haven't been - you really should consider a few visits - it's by far the best comedy venue in Nottingham - others claim to be full of glee - but they've got a lot to live up to - this place set the benchmark for comedy clubs - and continues to reach new levels of entertainment as it ages - Pleased to meet you - hope you guessed my name - Ooo, Who, Who ! Oh, yeah !!!

Went here for the opening night of a comedy run hosted by Ross Noble.
Thought he was very poor and didn't really have a plan he rambled on about nothing - thought he was drunk at some points, best laughs were derived from comments from a drunk woman heckler. The rest of the acts were a bit better best of the night was a woman can't remember her name unfortunately, other than her act on the whole there were not a lot of belly laughs!
The venue was basic as expected, beer was very poor had to go to bottled, although the service was OK and quick for the amount of people that were there, i think 400, which brings me to my biggest criticism, the toilets, so as i said 400 people all heading there at the breaks and in the gents there is ONE hand dryer which comes on automatically for about FIVE seconds then shuts down for THREE - talk about promoting hygiene in the young!

Well... I'm sorry that this reviewer didn't like the show. But just to let any reader know what this person attended and did not like: Ross Noble is one of the best comedians live that there is. People that know him know that he has the ability to go onstage and craft magic out of nothing. These shows that he was doing with us were a real treat for stand up fans. Ross had not done any gigs in 6 months. In spite of that he was able to go on stage and be hilarious for over an hour each night we had him on. His performances were all off the cuff and were brilliant. He normally does 2000 seater venues. This was a real treat. The other acts that this reviewer did not like were: John Kearns. Winner of the Edinburgh Fringe Fosters Comedy Award Best Newcomer 2014 and Best Show 2014. He is totally original. The closing act was Paul McCaffrey. he is a regular headliner at all the major clubs around the country and is about to support Sean Lock on a load of national tour dates. If you like comedy, ignore this review. If you are really concerned about the hand dryers, then take this review very seriously!
