This was such an amazing property we were sad to have to leave for home. It is a glorious four-storey town house, beautifully decorated and appointed, right in the centre of York yet not at all noisy. Mark the owner was an absolute star and couldn't have been more helpful. We are already thinking of dates for our next visit. It was so good I was tempted not to post this review, to keep this amazing place to ourselves! We go to York once or twice a year but this was our favourite place to stay yet.
The house could not be more central, yet is quiet and peaceful. Even the minster bells, very audible through the day, are silent between 8pm and 8am. The house is warm and welcoming, well-appointed with good beds, a large comfortable sitting-room, two spacious bathrooms and a convenient kitchen. Mark, the owner, welcomed us with chocolate cake and wine (our kind of a chap!) and was helpful and informative about local services and attractions. We would be very happy to have the chance to return.
My partner, her sisters and respective partners stayed here for 3 nights over new years and the place is great, brilliant location as it is about a 50 metre walk to the main minster doors, you can see the minster from the windows of the house, I do have to say that if you have any sort of mobility issues then it may not be the place for you as the house has 4 floors and many stairs. The owners Mark and Anne were very nice to deal with and answered all our questions, met us on the day of arrival showed us around the property and even left us with a bottle of sparkling wine and a cake (nice touch), there was a bit of a minor problem when we first got there but Mark explained the situation to us and did his best to overcome it. I would certainly recommend the house for a short or longer stay.
we loved our stay in York at the house on Precentor's Court. It was wonderful to be so near the Minster--to hear the bells before Evensong and to be right at the center of everything. We felt as though we were residents, and indeed, spoke about how wonderful it would be to live in a house like it in York. We have been to York many times (since I grew up in Yorkshire) and we have stayed in many places, but this one was our favorite. There was plenty of room to spread out and relax at the end of the day. The kitchen had everything we needed. And even though it took a while to get used to the many floors, this was also a unique aspect of the house. There was plenty of room for family to stay, too, which was fun. We were close to everything: cafes, pubs, restaurants, the walls, the museums, the shops, and yet it was quiet at night when most sightseers go home-and even durinpg the day- because it is not a street people need to use and it is surrounded by other houses and walled properties which protect it from traffic, noise, and pedestrians. Really a magical experience. We would definitely go again!
