We were met by a very friendly gentleman who showed us our room in the attic - as their family room was located there. Room was clean and large with ample room to walk around.
Within walking distance to shops and the main city center - the Minster and the Shambles.
Breakfast was excellent and we were very well taken care of. I highly recommend the Ascot House as it has all the trimmings of comfort plus excellent hosts - I take my hat off to Mr Woods who was so so very helpful to me an my family and extended a hand of help when we had a flat tyre on leaving the premises.

Room Tip: I would recommend Ascot House when in York because of its location and the people running it.

Very good in all respects. You have lots of choices in York, but this hotel is definitely highly recommended. Large room, immaculately maintained, with a big new bathroom as well. The hotel is in excellent condition throughout and also has a large lounge area as well as a PC for staying in touch. It's a late Victorian building still featuring its original panelling and stained glass windows so is a bit of an architectural gem as well. It's a short bus ride from the centre, or about 15mins walk from Stonebow. The breakfast was fine and included some nice stewed rhubarb, although the scrambled eggs were a little overcooked.

We have just returned home from a 2 night stay at Ascot house.
Myself my partner and our daughter were given a family room on the top floor. The room was perfect, full of character and absolutely spotless! Beds were very comfy.
The owners were a lovely friendly couple and very helpful.
Breakfast was fantastic! I cannot fault this guesthouse in any way. We will definitely be returning here in the future.

We booked a three night mini break at this hotel, it was easy to find with the help of Google maps and satellite view. We arrived at 12.30 and expected to leave our cases in the car but we were given the key to our room (16) . Mrs Wood gave me map of the city and pointed out the nearest tower to Ascot House, this was most useful.
The breakfast was excellent, the room and ensuite very clean and comfortable. The first evening we shared a bottle of wine in the lounge area, reasonably priced.
Opposite the hotel is a very useful bus stop to catch the coastliner bus to Whitby, a fabulous day out. (You can use your bus pass).
We strolled into the city every day, 15 mins. The car park is compact, our car was silver on arrival and green when we left, just avoid the trees in May.
Adjacent to the hotel is a small park.
