Thoroughly enjoyed the visit to the Minster. Both its size and construction are impressive. Be sure to take advantage of the free guided tour which is included in the entrance fee.

Our guide Ian, was exceptional. He was so knowledgeable, witty and funny and kept everyone engaged throughout the tour. He told us all the stories of the history of the Minster, the three fires that shaped the history and the reconstruction efforts that followed each one – including the phenomenal projects to rebuild the tower and to repair the stained glass windows. You would totally miss a ton of important and fascinating facts about the Minster if you did not take the tour.

Make sure to take a walk along the city walls from Petergate to Monkgate Bar for great spots from which to take photos of the Minster.

I recommend booking online in advance in order to get expedited entrance and to avoid the lines. You actually pay slightly less if you book this way versus standing in line. There were supposed to be staff outside to find people with fast track entry and take them in. This was not so when we visited. We had to have one of our party hold our spot in line and the other go inside and pass the line to figure out the system. After first being told there was no such thing as fast track, the employee then came back to us and admitted he was wrong and we got to bypass the line. So, be persistent!

You can't go to York without visiting the Minster and you can't visit the Minster without taking one of the free guided tours round. My guide, a retired teacher of English, was excellent in her delivery, humour and knowledge. Without the tour you would miss so many things that make this building so very special.

York Monster is the largest Gothic Cathedral north of the Alps The Stained glass are breath taking there is plenty to see especially the Roman Legion Headquarters which is situated underneath the Minister ideal for Roman Buffs. The Staff are helpful and friendly at all times. The Entrance fee to the Minster is worth the money

Open top bus tour took us there. Was impressive....cool place (literally) to spend a very hot afternoon in. The bright sunlight showed the stained glass windows off to their best effect.
