Owner description: Dating back to medieval times, this splendid Church of England cathedral features magnificent 14th- and 15th-century stained glass, stonework and elaborate tombs.

The size and scale of this cathedral are breathtaking. A good place for a quiet reflection. Was tempted to climb the tower but the weather was bad, maybe next time.

An interesting, vast building. Tickets are useable for a year. We climbed the tower with approx. 275 steps. Wonderful views.

We went during the lead up to Easter and services were ongoing at the time of our visit. The place is so huge that we didn't feel like we were disrupting the worship. There is an extra charge for going up the central tower which we didn't do, but still were able to spend a couple of hours going around. There is activities for children in some of the areas and an exhibit of some excavation works. Some renovations ongoing of the stained glass but this was barely noticeable. In a building this size I imagine there are always repairs to be done.

The best place to visit in York. £15 quid is ridiculous to look around any hostoric building (including a trip to the top) but if you have an annual york card which costs hardly anything you can go in for free. Great views and interesting stained glass accompanied by great history. Try to avoid weekends as it is rammed.
