I’d thankfully remembered the queues for Jorvik last time we visited York, and pre-booked our ticketed before we arrived. This meant we could walk on at a specified time without waiting, which I would recommend you do if possible.
There is so much to see, so many artefacts that it would be easy to spend lots of time here if you have an interest in the Viking era. The ride around the attraction is great, my 5 year-old was a little nervous about getting on, so we missed 3 carriages, but the host was so kind and patient with him; letting him see on the iPad what it was like on the ride and giving him a little lantern so he could see in the dark. Once on of course, he was fine and really enjoyed it.
The gift shop is small but it has lots to see, and the requisite pens and notebooks were bought as usual.

The first part of the tour is a cable car ride through time to the time of the Vikings, animated figures 'work' at gutting fish, making shoes, bowls etc. This takes about 15-20 minutes then there is another part that can be walked around, depending on how thoroughly you like to see and read everything it only takes around an hour to see the whole of it.

A great attraction, well put together and the animations are fantastic. The only bad side is the queue to get in. After waiting an hour and half to get in, in the cold and rain!, a little disappointing as we were only in there for half and hour. Guide book quite expensive at £8 but very detailed!

We queued outside in the rain for about 20 mins. The staff gave out umbrellas to people who didn't have them and even offered me a bag to carry mine around in when we got inside which was nice. The staff were all lovely and enthusiastic. The ride was good and made a nice change to just walking around a whole museum, and the scenery to look at is great. I remember really enjoying learning about the Vikings at school but this was slightly underwhelming. It didn't take long to go round and we paid slightly less for a much lengthier experience at another museum near the castle.

We found this experience absolutely fantastic, the detail and realism of the computer driven robots was way beyond my expectations, massively impressed with the set scenes and the attention to detail such as eels wriggling on a barrel, all the scavenging animals, cats, rats and chickens were amazingly animated and the Vikings were so realistic in looks, dress and movement. The suspended pods moved around to face the scenes and take you close to experiencing the lives of the Viking's in their homes, streets and markets plus great commentary from the head speakers.

We arrived here on Good Friday at 10.15 waited 10 minutes and were inside looking at the exposed remains of the dig from the 60's/70's , 50 minutes later we left thoroughly glad we came here with our York pass then moved on and made good use of it elsewhere.
