Been before but this was the first time with my youngest who is now 5. A fabulous museum with many great displays and intriguing true stories. My youngest loved the replica Victorian street with its shops, cobbles, gas lights and smells/sounds. The old prison which once housed the likes of Dick Turpin is fascinating, we loved the holographic actors telling us their unique stories in the cells. Creepy but intriguing ! Outside in the yard is a replica scaffold which is very startling and realistic. Great historical museum which takes about 2 hours or so to look around. Kids go free which is great too.

Plenty to see and do, walk through time from the 1960's fashions and goods to first and second world war exhibits and the excellent 'shops' with informative, period dressed staff tell you a bit about the life and times. Plan to spend a few hours there if you can as there is so much to see and do. If you are only interested in ancient history though you would be better going to the Jorvik Viking Centre.

I think the £10 entrance fee was more than justified, especially in comparison with paying more at Jorvik. We spent just under two hours here and all the exhibits are very informative, if some a little random but that could just be me. Loved the Victorian street and how the old sweet shop was a real one to buy from, and how all the staff were dress in Victorian outfits too. My concentration did wane towards the end but it was an enjoyable experience and was surprised how much there was inside!

This was our first visit to this attraction in many a year and we found it good value for money spending 4 hours in the museum half way round we stopped for a pot of tea in the museum café and this was reasonable priced.
The Victorian street was very good but did find the World War 1 exhibition a little large and in the end it became a little tedious, the gift shop which we visited before leaving was quit expensive.

Very interesting and well worth a look. We only had 90 minutes so couldn’t take it all in. Plenty of history to take in and the museum even has its own street inside.
