Nice comfy bed - just as well as it's as needs to be comfortable to while the hours of darkness away pending rising in the morning.
It's impossible to sleep for three reasons.
Firstly the walls are so thin you can hear people in the adjacent rooms conversing - not clearly perhaps but certainly enough to keep you awake if you are even faintly a light sleeper.
Secondly, is the state of the floorboards in the rooms. The squeaking and creaking is horrendous and is even noisier than that of people's conversations in the adjacent rooms. It is impossible to walk to any part of the rooms without disturbing everyone. That applies to both the rooms adjacent to the one we had too so must be a common fault in the hotel.
Thirdly, due to the thin walls, everyone that passes along the corridor is liable to disturb you - even more so if they are speaking (or shouting!) to each other.
On the positive side, the breakfast was good...but that will not be enough to ever entice me back.

Room Tip: I don't know if they have a good room, but avoid 214!

Thank You for review of ibis York Centre, I am sorry your sleep was disturbed by noise from other guests and the old character of the grade II listed building. From reading reviews on Trip Advisor many would be wary of a stay at the York Ibis.

We stayed at the hotel for a short family break exploring the city during half-term, despite booking a few months in advance the Ibis was approaching £50 per night cheaper than any other known brand hotel situated within a mile of the city centre.

Whilst cheap certainly shouldn't means substandard, our expectations were lowered somewhat, we simply wanted a clean and safe base to explore from and sleep. We were really impressed.

The hotel attracts a wide demographic; from families like ourselves, young & older couples, business people and contractors, and clearly succeeds in meeting all these peoples different requirements.

As said elsewhere the rooms are basic & lack storage (it was certainly a challenge staying with a young family) and the bathroom was in need of attention around grouting and the skirting boards. But the room was clean, furniture well maintained, the bed was good (all slept well), linen was clean and the room was 'made-up' swiftly each day.

Ongoing renovations continue, the exterior wood work was being painted during our stay.

The bar, dining & seating area is perfect for families. Open plan, well facilitated and clean. Free wifi throughout. Extensive information and leaflets about nearby attractions.

Our only recommendation would be the benefit of fixing a changing station in one of the downstairs toilets.

There was a good assortment of breakfast items, hot food was fresh and everything was replenished quickly.

The service from all staff was second to none; friendly, helpful and enthusiastic. They shared information about their city freely and during our three night stay we felt often went beyond what was expected.

There is very limited parking, it is very tight and inadequate for the size of hotel. Spaces were taken up with skips, linen trolleys and vehicles belonging to workmen working in and around the Ibis. There is limited parking around the hotel, side streets are permit only and spaces at the nearby pay and display in short supply. We were lucky to arrive at check out and secure a space, our car did not move again until we departed.

We would recommend a stay at the York Ibis with little hesitation.

Dear Guest

Thank You for your very kind review of ibis York centre. As you indicate we are continually updating the hotel and facilities we offer. It is really pleasing to learn you experienced high levels of service from the team as this is something we pride ourselves on. We will get a baby changing station in the public toilets as to be honest this has been overlooked. We look forward to welcoming you back very soon.

Bathroom was full of hair from previous occupant, crushed make up in the carpet which clearly hadn't been hoovered. Generally unclean. Complained about excessive noise next door at 12midnight which began at 9.45pm. Was told that the party would be informed that they were causing a disturbance. Nothing was done and the noise continued and took place again the next night. For £208, I expect a clean room. I keep my own room clean for free. The bathroom also had no ventilation at all and a mouldy shower curtain.

Nice, clean hotel with very comfy beds! Price is good for the location. Parking is very limited so would recommend finding somewhere before arriving at hotel. On the first day we had to request additional towels as the room was only prepared for a single person rather than a couple and we had to ask for the tea tray to be replenished on the second day. Other than that everything was fine, friendly staff and well located. You get what you pay for
