“Cosy cottage in perfect location”

We really enjoyed our weekend, the photos really do not do it justice. Everything you need is provided and there were some lovely extra touches such as a bottle of wine, a pint of milk and biscuits. The bed linen and towels were good quality. We spent hours looking at the view from the bedroom window, perched on the high stools, drinking wine! There are 2 good pubs nearby and it is 2 minutes walk to the centre of Whitby.

“Absolutely Love This Cottage”
Reviewed 29 March 2016 for a stay in March 2016

We fell in love with Laverick Steps from the moment we arrived at the cottage and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I don't think the photo's on the website do it justice as the rooms were much bigger than we expected. It was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. We thought the complimentary bottle of wine and biscuits were a lovely gesture, and there was even milk in the fridge. Whitby is one of our favourite places, we usually stay on West Cliff on a B&B basis but we thought Church Street was a great location and we loved the freedom of self catering. It was very quiet, even though there's a pub close by, it wasn't at all noisy. We stayed for 3 nights over the Easter bank holiday weekend, all the scooter clubs were there on a rally and there was a great atmosphere in the pubs in the evening. Lovely big, comfy bed and a great night's sleep. Fantastic view from the bedroom overlooking the harbour. The temperature in the cottage was perfect for us and we always had hot water. Smooth booking and quick response from the owner with easy to follow instructions/information regarding accessing the property and parking etc. We parked at the Abbey and it was safe to leave the car overnight, £6.50 for 24 hours, however you can get a cheaper parking ticket from the Tourist Board. We would definitely recommend the cottage to family/friends, it really is a little gem and we will definitely try and book Laverick Steps when we next visit Whitby - we didn't want to leave!

This was a return visit for Whitby Folk Week; I have stayed here before and it was great to come back again and find everything so welcoming. It is a very comfortable and clean apartment with great views from the bedroom.

“Not suitable for children”
Reviewed 9 August 2015 for a stay in July 2015

Really nice touches like wine left, tea/coffee and cookies to your use. Underestimated the steepness of the steps though and my 6 year old fell down some. Bedside lamp blew up whne turned on and set the bulb on fire as it flew through the air and burnt my 6 year old - out of date PAT testing from April 2014 - it's only valid for a year. Extinguishers last tested in 2013! Curtain rail fell on my head. Shame as bathroom/bedroom roomy and generous. Odd mixture of high quality but let down by cheap accessories.Noise from seagulls will wake you up early as single skin windows. Great location but access getting/using the key in the door is very difficult and fiddly.

Dear Ange
So sorry you and Daughter did not have the best stay in the oottage and about the highly irregular incident with the faulty lamp. The cottage steps are steep which we always make clear along with the fact that Laverick Steps is not suitable for everyone. We hope our response to the incident was satisfactory in that we removed and replaced the lamps the very next day and fixed the blind that had fallen down.

Our PAT testing was technically due at the end of May this year but we are trying to shift all annual testing and maintenance to take place after the Summer season between October and January so it is a little delayed this year. The extinguishers were however checked in October 2014. We are under no legal obligation to test them annually and on the advise of the local fire Service are moving to smaller recommended extinguishers this Autumn.

Do let me know what you mean by the 'cheap accessories' as we really try to offer a high quality experience for all our guests. Unfortunately we cant do anything to improve what are standard key safes, keys and door locks or the noise of the seagulls. All the windows in the bedroom are double glazed not single but I appreciate that's this is not very relevant in Summer when the windows need to be opened.
best wishes
Erica and Raj
