We recently visited the Castle Museum with a 4 and 6 year old having fond memories from our own childhood over forty years ago. Rather surprisingly large amounts of the museum seem to be largely the same as the 1970s. Who knew a diorama of the Norfolk wetlands or stuffed African animals still existed? I have to admit I was rather expecting time might have moved on a little. The Castle is still fine, the Keep is great, but on the other hand....

Went to see this new exhibition about the history of the castle and the plans for it's future. I was prepared to read all the information and look closely at the old prints etc. However for a family it was not likely to provide much interest. Not user friendly for children. Consequently although the castle was busy with families I was the only one in the exhibition. Am rather sorry that they no longer have a bar there though, as they showed at the end!

Plenty to explore in the castle. Good interpretation materials and some interesting facts to absorb. Really helpful staff with bags of knowledge and a genuine interest in the building's history. If you are adults/ a couple then best to visit outside of weekends/school hols as the acoustics mean ot gets very noisy when full of little ones having fun. Be sure to leave time for the museum as there are lots of interesting displays and artefacts.

We really enjoy visiting historic treasures, and Norwich castle is one of the best. Not only do you experience one of the finest buildings of the medieval period, it is also a fascinating museum. Highly recommended, but a bit expensive.
