Review of Gatwick Express

Gatwick Express
Reviewed 15 July 2018

We prebooked our tickets the day before we left right at Victoria Station so the morning we departed for the airport we had no difficulty getting right on to a departing train. The train was not crowded and we had no problem storing our luggage close to us. The train was clean and the trip to Gawick airport took approx 30 minutes.

The Gatwick express from Victoria station was easy to find, buy tickets for at the machine and get on with our giant suitcases and backpacks.

It only took about 20-30 minutes to get there and the price was reasonable as well.

There was reliable wifi and plenty of room. Easy and hassle free love your expresses London! Nice work!

Don’t bother paying extra as you won’t get anything extra. There’s no space for the luggage and there are people standing due to lack of seats.

I had a day trip to London, landing at Gatwick, heading to the museums and then back. A friend suggested the Gatwick Express, It was a breeze. Ordered tickets online, found the station from the terminal at Gatwick, boarded and was whisked to the city. Got off the train, walked out the door, and there was Victoria Station, jumped on the underground and was at my destination 5 minutes later. Coming back, even though it was a Friday afternoon and a bit more crowded at the station, the train was not overcrowded. 30 minutes later I was in the terminal, through security and on my way. Can't think of a better way to make a quick trip. Seemingly more convenient than Hethrow, and maybe because more domestic travelers at Gatwick, less confused travelers boarding the trains.

I lived for years in Wiltshire and suffered through endless delayed, derailed, retouted and cancelled journeys on ancient, filthy trains.
Now based in Japan and accustomed to the novelty of spotless, modern trains that arrive and leave on time, it’s a bit of a culture shock to land at Gatwick and take thilariously named Gatwick Express into Victoria. You know, the railway station in London which was last renovated in, well, Victorian times. So very modern by British standards.
It took me one hour and 15 minutes.
On a journey that should take 20 minutes.
To make the joke even better, the train carriages ar plastered with posters proclaiming the gigantic speed by which you are supposed to be travelling.
Oh, we do love the English sense of humour!
