Of all the museums in the city to choose from, this is one of the lesser known, but miss-it and you'll miss-out on perhaps, one of the city's best hidden secrets.
It houses the 'Wallace Collection' - one of the finest collections of period armour in the country and considering the size of the House, houses an astounding array of Art, from the 15th Century onwards. You can also view a fine collection of period furniture and porcelain in rooms that looked as if they'd just been decorated.
Every room you entered, your tour just got better and better and all this, for FREE - it is worth buying the guidebook for £7.00, which in itself, is a fine coffee table addition.
The cafe/restaurant looked very inviting, but we hadn't the time to stay.
All-in-all, a great place to spend a few hours and well-worth visiting again!

This place has a stunningly large collection of a variety of beautiful paintings, historic weapons, and other amazing pieces, while also being a stunning historic house, decked out in Jane Austen/Downton Abbey style. The staff are amazing, both in how kind and knowledgeable they are, and the cafe is a delight. I spent four days in London visiting numerous historic houses and museums and this was hands-down my favorite, with the best of both!

My daughter brought me here last weekend on a family visit to London. The house is absolutely stunning. There are so many beautiful and very interesting treasures to see. Hundreds of paintings, some buy very famous painters. There is a lovely cafe in the conservatory too. The icing on the cake.... THE HOUSE IS FREE TO VIEW! Fantastic afternoon spent here. Well worth the visit.

Few people realise that just a few minutes from Oxford Street is a wonderful place for a visit and afternoon tea. Just 5 minutes walk from theSelfridges Store, in Manchester Square, this house houses a wonderful collection of paintings, furniture, porcelain and silver. The house itself is an exquisite example of an aristocratic town house. In the centre of the building that once was a courtyard there is now a restaurant and tea room covered with a glass roof. Amongst its many treasures is the original 'Laughing Cavalier' painting. The final reason for visiting this lovely place is that it is absolutely free to get in. My wife and I have visited this house many times and we always find something new to look at.

A beautiful house in the heart of London with a fabulous collection of art, armour, china, jewels. All displayed in various rooms exquisitely decorated. Plenty of information in each room and descriptions by exhibits. Make it a short trip round or take your time to enjoy it all, it's over two floors and there's a restaurant where you can enjoy a cuppa and delicious cake or a meal.
