Brilliant night out at Paris Grill. Great food, excellent service and George Michael tribute was so much fun. Looking forward to going again soon!

This formerly old fashioned establishment was in cramped basement premises off Bevis Marks and moved to its present site some years ago. In terms of ambience and cuisine it has always been a little piece of Paris in the City - with the recent refurbishment of the current premises confirming it as one of the top three dining experiences in London EC3 - and the best if one takes 'value' into account. The lower ground floor bar/bistro is excellent for a drink and casual dining - but this review is focused on the formal raised ground floor restaurant.

Diners are now greeted by an elegant art deco reception/cloakroom area, with the theme continuing up the broad staircase into the spacious and well lit and now elegant restaurant area. The food is uncompromisingly French and whilst the cooking is usually of a high standard, the fresh meat, fish, vegetables and other ingredients make it. Given the location and the quality, the pricing is very reasonable. The wine list is well chosen - straightforward to navigate and offers adequate choice for most at sensible prices. Connoisseurs may find the list predictable, but for an overwhelmingly 'business' lunchtime clientele it suits admirably. (Few wish to browse wine lists looking more like encyclopaedia in front of clients!).

For those who enjoy steak tartare, this is as good as it gets and is definitely the signature dish - prepared at table with a bewildering array of condiments. I have lunched here many times - and so many of my guests have enquired whether it is open in the evenings - which it was not until recently, other than for private functions. They now have jazz on several evenings during the week and both formal and casual dining. I cannot wait to try an evening visit - although they are not open at the week-ends. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough - booking at lunchtime advised - since the refurb it has become so much busier. The only downside is the increased noise and feeling of it now being hectic, rather than low-key. Perhaps more waiting staff are needed now they are so busy - as the current arrangements are evidently under strain. Normally the service is excellent - suffering presently due to increased number of lunchtime diners.

Excellent service and a delightful menu offering the kind of fare you’d find in a proper Parisian bistro. Very reasonably-priced compared to other good restaurants in the area and obviously popular among those working in the city — when we arrived at 12:30 it was very quiet, by the time we left at 2pm it was heaving! I had the French onion soup to start and the skate wing for main. Both were superb. My colleagues had the beef bourguignon and the ribeye steak and both were very happy with them.

Highly recommended - I’ll definitely be back!
