This was a return visit, and I came back here because I remembered how good the beds were, and how nice the place felt. When you approach the Hendon Hall building, it is an awe-inspiring site – the building is from the 1550’s, and very well kept. Situated in a side road, the hotel has its own little mini-park, so the hotel is quiet. Also inside the hotel there are many many details which are kept in keeping with the glory of the past, paintings, furniture, high ceilings. The place has style, and the beds were as good as I had remembered them.
Check-in was very efficient, and everything else the reception does is done extremely well. We requested a different room because the one we were given first smelled a little of the previous occupant’s aftershave – within minutes, we had a new room. Inquiries for an umbrella, a document that needed scanning and then emailed to me: everything was done effortlessly and with utmost courtesy. Very impressive.
The rooms can be a little small, but they do have charme. We had a room rate including the breakfast, and the breakfast is really nice. There are add ons from a menu, which are included in the breakfast rate: I had Scottish salmon with scrambled eggs and bread, which was very tasty. The staff is very attentive, and nothing is a bother.
One thing one needs to be aware of is that the location of Hendon Hall is not very close to a tube station. The 240 bus stops practically in front of the house, and this will get you in 15 minutes to Golders Green and the Northern line. But if you have a lot of luggage and want to use public transport then this is a little inconvenient to get to. If you have your own car or only light luggage, then do consider the place, it is value for money and charming!
