We booked a table for four for a proper pub lunch here and we were not disappointed! The pub is lively in atmosphere but never became too loud to have normal conversation. We had the "ale and pie" meal which also tasted great and authentic. The staff were friendly and efficient and the Fuller's beer went down a treat. I don't know how authentic the furnishings a decor are but they certainly felt very "London" and "typical pub" I was imagining the place full of reporters back in the heady days when Fleet street was the newspaper heart of London. I can thoroughly recommend!!

We thought this place looked good and was near to Aldwych for our planned theatre trip this evening.
Very disappointed in the restrictive/very limited choices for vegetarians and when the food arrived the veg was cold and half the chips were burnt scraps with most of the rest being so tiny you couldn't stick them with your fork!
To be fair the vegetarian pie was tasty and the pastry was good but I would have preferred to be given a choice of condiments instead of being given mayo (how does that go with pie and chips??)
Only three puddings on the menu and they were all stodgy options, they had run out of one of the veggie starters and the bar staff did not appear top know what a liquer is because we asked for an alternative to Kahlua but were told they only have gin, whiskey, wine and beer! Not true if you look on your own bar shelves Mr Barman!
One thing I hate the most is staff who either ignore you or shrug their shoulders when asked a question they should know the answer to and ignore you when you are waiting at the bar - RUDE!
Noticed things like dead roses in very dusty vases on the bar shelves and clocks that don't work.
Even more annoying when we tried to reserve a table before we went and were told all tables were taken - turned out not to be true at all and the tie we then spent looking for a table meant certain menu options weren't then available to us!
We are unlikely to return and that's a shame as this place is a flagship location and has great potential it simply doesn't live up to!

Similar to the Knights Templar a couple of blocks away, you won't feel like an NBA player in the Shire in this building with ornate high ceilings and chandeliers. Another historic location and pub that needs to be on your list. This one is easy to stay and chat a while without hyperventilating.
