Review of Scully St James's

Scully St James's
Ranked #5 175 of 24 255 Restaurants in London
Description: Scully St James's is Ramael Scully's first solo venture. Born in Malaysia and brought up in Sydney, with a Mother of Chinese/Indian descent and an Irish Balinese Father, you can almost guarantee your experience will be based on a wide range of culinary traditions from his family heritage. Having had the benefit of such a diverse cultural upbringing, not to mention his vast experiences from traveling the world; you can expect an explosion of flavours using sustainable, locally sourced ingredients where possible, created and served in an informal yet refined setting. Scully has amassed a range of ingredients from homemade spices, pickles, and preserves through to programmes of oils, animal fats, dairy and sprouts, most of which can be seen on our working display as you enter the restaurant. Chef's former boss, Yotam Ottolenghi says, "He has an insatiable appetite for bold and vibrant colours and irreverent blends of ingredients, his kitchen is an exciting and unexpected place to be.

This is our second visit to Scullys in St James Market. It’s hard to categorise the food as its developed from many different food cultures but the food is sensational and a very different offering when compared with other London restaurants. The environment is very relaxed and the service is very friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. A lot of thought has gone in to the menu and wine - the pork and pastrami were firm favourites and the snails were a close second. Congratulations on a great restaurant and I’m sure it will be a great success. I am sure we will be returning in the near future!

We had seats at the chef’s table which meant we had a great view of the food preparation and interesting conversation with Chris. The stories behind the dishes adds intrigue and makes you appreciate the lengths and trouble taken to present such amazing and individual plates. Truly exceptional and not too pricey.

I work nearby and have eaten here 4 times in the few weeks it has been open. Scully was former head chef at the Ottolenghi restaurant NOPI - of which I am a fan. The food here seems far more refined with some delicacy (the halibut) in amongst the bold flavours (arepa)

Service friendly, informed and professional. Nice space too. Not an obvious place to find (hidden off Lower Regent Street) - but well worth seeing out.

Had a fantastic meal at this new place at St James Market. Everything was perfect, food, wine and staff. Wonderful food with combinations of tastes I’ve never tried before. We wanted to try everything on the menu! Can’t wait to come back!

We had dinner at Scully three nights ago: it was an absolutely amazing experience. The food is treated with passion and professionalism, but creativity is not lacking. You taste flavors appropriate for the various preparations of both meat and fish; sublime the treatment of vegetables and vegetables. The excellent dessert was a right conclusion. It's worth it.
